The u21 championship use to be a good competition. This format is silly and hard to take it serious

Replying To PatTheDandy:  "Participation in the u20 competition seems to be very poor.

Cavan Gaels conceding a Division 2 Quarter Final against Laragh. Worrying times for them."
Gaels had a panel of 20 odd players, but unfortunately, a few injuries and a number of lads unavailable for work and college reasons due the time of year, so numbers wise, hardly worrying for the Gaels. If I were in the Co Board, I'd be thinking, this is an u20 competition, the next step for these lads is senior, yet the standard in most cases has been terrible. Even more worrying is the the fact that some amalgamations withdrew from the competition because they couldn't field a team. In addition, a Co U20 Division One with only 3 teams in it, what does that say about football in Co Cavan?

Perhaps if the Co Board gave the competition the respect it deserved and ran it as a proper competition and at a better time of year, then players and clubs would give it the same respect.

I agree with the most of that. Terrible time of year and the county has done poorly for this age group in recent years and neglected them.

And it is also hard no matter who you are to produce good teams at every age group or generation after generation, but work commitments and injuries etc. don't take away from the fact that the Gaels obviously pulled out because they didn't feel they could put out a team to compete with Laragh, who are a Division 2 team.

You only need to get 1 or 2 new young players every year to keep a good senior team like the Gaels ticking over but it definitely looks like the conveyor belt is not churning out players and team like it used to and did for so long, and like is happening in Crosserlough & Ramor now.

Im afraid club football is been destroyed in this county by the the way it is being run .
All emphasis is on the county tteam and very little being thought of the club teams.
And at clubs its win at all costs thats why participation is way down.
Clubs joining at underage level not because they cant field a team but because they have to win.
The geals joining with killygary at minor level lacken and gowna at underage cavan geals not fielding a team at under 20 crosserlough not being able to field a team for a junior semi final.
The way things are going we will only have three teams in div one like the u 20 championship this year
