Good for you that you enjoy reading what are unwarranted essasy on players leaving county panels and others posts on how great Mayo are. No need for all the waffle, keep it short and sweet - straight to the point.

They train collectively only once a week from January through to April or middle of may (Due to 70% of there squad living in Dublin), they are obviously extremely focused and dedicated and believe 100% every year that they can beat anyone. I think that the problem in Meath is that the attitude and mindset of players in this county of most club and county (not all) is that, 'ah look were not good enough Dublin are to good what's the point, training is to hard i'd rather just stick with the club and have the craic' This mindset has been rampant throughout the county since 2013 and even a small bit before that and it will never change unless players start changing there individual attitude. There are young players on Meath development squads, U17''s and U20's busting themselves training because they want more than anything to represent there county and be successful, but if the current mindset that surrounds the Meath Senior team continues these players will develop the same attitudes and we will never progress."
Good post, and I agree with everything you say.

Just to point out...lads are talking bout the tough commitment thats expected off players under Andy. This is an interview from 2015 with Donal Keoghan under MOD....
"I'm up at a quarter past six every morning. On the bus at seven o'clock from Slane.
In College usually around eight. Do the days work in the lab or whatever. Generally get the half five bus," Keogan explains of a typical day. ''Then home for about 6.40. Straight into the car from Slane. Training for half seven.
Get food there. Home about 11 o'clock and up again at six the morning. Repeat.
If you have a lot on your plate," he surmises, "it forces you to be organised."

At the end of the day lads are either committed and proud to wear the jersey and if they are not then they can jog on.

Who's forcing you to read them? Just skip on. Many of us do enjoy reading his analysis and tbh it puts a lot of things in context.
Keep posting furlong. It's a great read always

This is life for a lot of club players too (or soccer or basketball and any other playing sports).

However it should only be necessary to have group sessions twice on a week night and maybe once on the weekend. These sessions should be focused on ballwork and tactics and should be enjoyable.
Keoghan can then do his recovery sessions and gym work in his own time around whatever work/study schedule he has- in his case use the Trinity gym at lunchtime or his own club's gym in the evening time on nights the group training is not taking place. This would allow him 3 nights off during the week if using Trinity gym/pool during the day. From what I understand, this is how the Dublin footballers are treated.

What I therefore do not understand is having group training sessions (including gym and recovery work) 6 nights a week - its impractical, disheartening, unsustainable and frankly stupid. Lads are either adults and driven adults or not...they shouldn't need to be told be in a gym or pool for a certain time for group sessions in the evening times - everyone has different work/study schedules.

Of course it is doing no one any harm. If anyone doesn't want to read them don't.
Getting sick of some posters here. They acting like the bloody gastapo if whoever posts something they don't like. It's a forum ffs and if furlong or whoever wants to write 4 pages he is as entitled to do so.
I enjoy reading and many others too. If you don't, just scroll down, and stop bloody whining.

We don't normally intervene bar our moderation (so much moderation, would some of you calm down. If you saw some of the stuff we have to remove, oh my god!).
Anyhow, the championship is nearly upon us and maybe some should take a step back.
You might not agree with a fellow poster but they are giving their opinion. Have a little respect for each other and for your county.

Who ever said Meath are doing 6 nights a week (A phrase I hate hearing as it is totally inaccurate and is just used to sensationalize stories ) collectively? I would imagine they do like most counties, and some clubs would, 1 gym session as a team, which is split into morning and evening groups, 2 pitch sessions collectively, a second gym session in there own time and at the weekends its either a match, training or a weekend off. And they are very well looked after at every session as are most counties.

Before Christmas, I've heard it from a number of sources that there was collective training 6 nights a week from October on. Posts above regarding the training done in April, whether true or not, showed that this practice was continuing recently also.

I very much hope its not true as its totally stupid. However, for me, it would tally with a lot of of the drop offs. If lads are putting in crazy hours, they aren't going to tolerate feeling as though they are being disrespected or undervalued.

Just on the subject Overtraining..We often get confused about overtraining because even the name steers us in the wrong direction. First of all, overtraining doesn't mean training too much !

If the Meath lads were training 6 nights a week...my guess thats really only 7 to 8 hours a week training...you need to be training 20-25 hours a week or more. If you're unlucky enough to develop true overtraining syndrome, it won't take you days or even weeks to get back in top form; it will take months.

If you are winning and getting the reward back fom training ...life is easier .....on everybody :)

Only those who seem to have something negative to say about management use 6 nights a week. And it is so inaccurate

You are 100% correct in your facts about the training the lads do. Who ever did say they are training 6 nights a week anyway??

Funny --we had a huge amount of injuries during MODs tenure which suggests overtraining.

So far under Andy we have not had many injuries...and lads look a lot fitter.

Better training regime?

Possibly, maybe a better strength and conditioning programme.

Look what is done is done. As mod said. Let's put our differences on management/players or whatever behind us. We need to be 110% behind Andy , Brian and the team come 27. Really that's all that matters. Let's turn longford green.
Hon the royal.
