Jimmy speaking sense again

I think a lot of people are bitter about McGuinness as he has both walked the walk and is now able to talk the talk without being accused of lazy journalism. The fact remains that he is the last manager to beat the Dubs in championship football. I think that he is correct about how mayo should have closed the game out, about how Vaughan will have to shoulder the blame for doing what he did and also that he acknowledged Dublin for the team that they are. However, it seems that people are put out that Mayo seem to take much of the spotlight away from the champions. But if the truth be known, it is human nature to follow a tragedy such as their plight. It is classic drama. 90% of the news is negative as we are more prone to stories of doom than of happiness. Hence the Mayo drama.

I wish them well. I hope they do it next year. I don't care who they are playing in the final, the reality is that if it is against Longford rather than the Dubs or Kerry, I would still prefer to see them do it.

I'm well aware of that fact. Are you trying to imply that its the players fault when a team loses and when the team wins then the Manager is the responsible genius. I'm aware that without good players you win nothing, what he writes, or says, is no more important than what anyone else says as its just an opinion. I was not impressed with how he kept sniping at the recent past Donegal manager-on occasions.

Dublin get 15% of the development funding

Oh ffs.

I'm critical of this article and a few of his other recent articles. That is in no way bitterness I assure you. In general I like what he has to say.

He was also a phenomenal manager, I think some people also don't give the Donegal team of 2012 enough credit for how good they were as an attacking force.

I was in the big tree cheering you on that day.

Some people would consider him to have been over defensive. In general he wasn't other than against Dublin in 2011. Against Dublin in 2014 his team were fantastic and took Dublin out of their comfort zone and made them make mistakes and ultimately beat them.

That's part of the reason I disagree with his assessment here. Mayo by going counter attacking would have been allowing Dublin into their comfort zone when they had them on the ropes.

Obviously I'd agree with him on the Vaughan assessment. If he doesn't do that Mayo are very likely All Ireland champions.

Hindsight is a great thing in sport. I felt the two biggest mistakes Mayo made (apart from the mistakes players make being human) was
(a) taking off some of their best players early and as Flynn said you need your better players on the pitch when the game is to be decided
(b) failing to put pressure on Cluxton with the kick outs in the second half when they had been so successful at it in first half at doing so

They had to stop pushing the kickouts as their fitness would not have allowed it. Dublin's bench has ensured they can power ahead at the end of a game. Teams have to stay deeper and hope they get a chance towoards the end that they can take
