Has the fun been trained out of GAA players?

Can you imagine if we had a Zlatan like character in the GAA? Boasting and self praising himself all the time? He'd be derided from pillar to post!

It'd be class if the likes of Colm Boyle or John Small just started coming out with Zlatanesque quotes in the run up to the final!

Reporter: So Colm who who do you think is going to win on Sunday?
Colm Boyle: Only God knows
Reporter: It's kinda hard to ask Him!
Colm Boyle: Why? You're looking at him now."
Haha yeah.

Reporter: Colm your thoughts on your performance today? Another MOTM for you. You must be thrilled.

CB: Colm Boyle is just a human the way a great white shark is just a fish....

Replying To ballydalane:  "Come now, Avonali, we all know the last two sentences of your post aren't completely true, are they?"
Sorry, Ballydalane. Could you spell out exactly what you mean. I'm referring to their deportment on the pitch and as representatives of Dublin GAA.
If you hjave specific incidents in mind, spell 'em out and stop beating around the bush."
I'm sure everyone know what I'm referring to, if I was to go into any more specifics I doubt it would get through the moderators. You've got a great football team, and most of them come across as gentlemen on and off the park, but don't be making out that they're all great guys.

Colm Boyle - "I won't be King of Mayo when we win, I will be the God of Mayo"

Replying To ballydalane:  "If Donaghy's and Dwyer's quotes above are examples of what passes for personality and wit amongst inter-county players these days, then God help us.

Johnny Pilkington's "not a bad oul' flock" in '98 was a piece of genius."
I didn't exactly mean wit but they were just examples of talking of the top their head after winning. Amusing all the same. Something to talk about.

Up and down the length and breath of the country amateur inter county and club players are made sign contracts to consign to a certain set of rules and a complete ban on drinking alcohol and they dare not deviate from it ...

... meanwhile in Liverpool the highly paid professional footballers at Everton were out with Wayne Rooney on the weekend of the international break boozing from 4p.m. on a Saturday.

Yes the GAA has taken the fun out of training and players

Johnny Glynn?? He's a good man with a microphone after a big game. Also one of the Galway players (not sure who - seen it on-line this morning) sang the West's awake in Pearse Stadium last night. A good rendition too though slightly hoarse from 8 months hard training!!

yeah,it is all so guarded now.remember ger loughnane saying "i wouldnt give the team to tipperary,if i had my way i wouldn't tell them after the throw in"!!
it took tommy walsh coming on the radio for us to see what a character he was.i think we have our new micheal o.he is absolutely gas,and you can feel the love for the game that he has.
johnny glynn seems as mad as a march hare, but it took an all-ireland victory for that to come out.does this mean nobody is willing to say anything until they win an all-ireland?
listening to all the yarns about tony keady, sylive linnane, etc back then,it was a different era for characters.the game was full of them back then.
is it gone too serious now?

Replying To Ulsterman:  "I think Dublin are the greatest example of that. Very good players but dull as dishwater and extremely robotic."
Why single out Dublin? Seemingly a rule on here that Dublin must get specific emphasis when general negative points are made on HS :)

Dub players are fairly relaxed when talking. Kevin Mc has plenty of humour about him. In any case, if a Dub player dared make an off the cuff or sarcastic comment, this place would implore. Folk have words like 'arrogant' and 'cocky' ready to paste in if a Dub player gets anyway carried away in a post-match interview.
