Mayo need to save football

Replying To as_ky:  "When Dublin face Mayo in the final, if the Dubs do to Mayo what they have done to every other team this year it is going to be a hammer blow for football. It has been well documented about how the GAA have invested in Dublin to make the capital competitive but we are at the brink of this backfiring in a major way. Unless Mayo can buck the trend we will be left with an uncompetitive championship where the Dubs are miles ahead of the rest of the pack. This is going to undoubtedly effect interest in the championship."
And round and round and round it went.

Best laugh I had in a while, is this what the great Kingdom have been reduced too? the Dubs are setting the standard, it's up to the rest of us to try and match them.

5 in a row? 10 in a row? 15 in a row?

Because when one team has every advantage handed to them there is only one inevitable outcome and that will lead to the destructuon of the sport

Look at the Leinster Championship which was traditionally the most vibrant and exciting Championship to watch as a neutral is now dead as both players and fans have turned their backs to it as they know it's is eons away from being a fair and sporting competition well the same will happen on a national level

Is that what people want....................."
I would say 15 years mate, they are only now sorting Kerry out with tough games in the championship with the super 8 and sure thats been going on for 100 years. :)

Replying To Aibrean:  "Fair enough, Dublin's attack was brilliant in overcoming the Tyrone defensive setup. But, I think Dublin's defensive formation when Tyrone had the ball was identical to that of Tyrone. When Tyrone had the ball the whole - and I mean the whole - of Dublin's outfield players scurried back behind their own 65. On numerous occasions I noticed that 14 dublin players were behind their 65. So, the defensive formations were the same; the difference was that the Dublin forwards got through for brilliant scores whereas the Tyrone forwards failed dismally. So, perhaps Dublin are not the 100% 'pure' attacking team we are being led to believe they are.
I certainly did not see Mayo funnel back in a similar manner."
"But, I think Dublin's defensive formation when Tyrone had the ball was identical to that of Tyrone." and far more effective the blanket became a strait jacket which throttle Tyrone.

Kerry never in the history of the GAA had the benefit of home games in perpetuity, half the funding, semi-pro players, 80 pro coaches and a backroom team bigger than our playing squad.............

We always knew who our playters were and never mixed them up form one another...................

These posts coming from Kerry people are absolutely hilarious! Bet you weren't waiting for someone to STOP when Kerry were dominating.

Take your medicine lads

There was a time not so long ago where Dublin was at the butt end of country wide jokes..

Now look at yiz squirm

Drink it up and take it on the chin

We had to go through some serious doldrums with embarrassing defeats while getting dragged through the muck backwards

DRINK. IT. UP.

1) Poor oul Cork seem to have a lot of Munster Finals in Killarney though.

2) Kerry are way over funded comparatively to population.

3) Agree, its very self evident as part of your problem.

4) I would be very surprised if the Dublin senior football team had 80 coaches, we would need a couple of buses!:)

5) Ill tell you what i would concede the backroom team, if you can tell me who they are their roles and compare them to the number of the playing squad - but i suspect your lieing.

Kerrys failing arent Dublins problems really.

Lord save us and bless us. As if winning an All Ireland wasn't hard enough we're also expected to save football.

You cant say football is bad or needs saved when when one county is winning no matter who it is . I'm as anti-Dub as most ( mainly due to their supporters - ole'ing etc , only natural though I suppose ) but no one can doubt they are the best team around, probably the best ever . They have the best players who work the hardest , are the most skillful , the best tacklers . Its like when Tiger woods was dominating Golf he was he simply the best at all aspects of the game - dubs are the same .
Of course they are very defensive as well and their numbers back when defending are the same as Tyrone and other 'blanket ' defenses but the pundits and press dont pick up on it because their one-on-one tackling and transition is simply miles superior to other teams . I for one enjoy watching them play in the same way as I loved watching Kilkenny take on all comers for their title . I thought on sunday they were the most ruthless I've seen them in terms of their application- not that Tyrone put up any fight - very few wides or missed chances which is a major improvement on last year .
They are setting the standard in football and doing great things for GAA in Dublin. But it will end - similar to Kilkennys reign - but more than likely not in 3 weeks time .

You could've said the same about the Leinster Hurling cship recently but things change

Replying To jacktheDub:  "When Kerry won 8 in 11 years I am sure you were worried about the state of football. 17000 at a semi final in the 80's is a shocking figure. Kerry supporters are poor they don't travel to support there team unless it is a final and then they are still outnumbered. Was down in Fitzgerald stadium over the last few years and the Kerry attendance was pathetic they were outnumbered by 3 to 1."
Kerry won eight All-Irelands in twelve years but you are right in regard to crowds. Dublin
have brought massive crowds to the games and Dublin have created great publicity for
the game of Gaelic Football. They are wonderful ambassadors for the game. Mayo have
also provided terrific entertainment in this years championship. Mayo are great footballers
and a credit to their county.

They never had a population of 1.3m citizens to promote games to either, they never had ticket demands of 70,000 plus for championship games, never had a problem with stadia outside of their county incapable of hosting their numbers, could never really be considered a dual county, never had a real threat from rival sports like soccer and they were never great contributors of wealth to the GAA coffers. Chalk and cheese really.
