Would love to see some thought on this. I think this year is relatively open with mayo stuttering, Dublin players taking it in turns to excel( bar con) and tyrone and Kerry falling at the semi finals. royalcounty1 (Meath) - Posts: 14 - 28/08/2017 11:37:09 2039192 Link 0 |

Cluxton Harrison Cian o'sullivan Keith Higgins Colm Boyle Chris Barrett Jack McCaffrey Colm Cavanagh Tom Parsons Ciaran Kilkenny Con Callaghan Kevin McLoughlin Paul Geaney Rock/COC (whoever has the better final) Andy Moran I think most of those are nailed on, a large proportion of Mayo/Dublin with Colm Cavanagh and Geaney both still deserving despite bad losses at weekend HuddHastings (Longford) - Posts: 144 - 28/08/2017 12:12:33 2039220 Link 0 |
Can I just say, Any team that doesn't have James McCarthy in it in the midfield, needs binning right off the bat. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 28/08/2017 12:56:50 2039264 Link 1 |

Very unlucky not to get an All star last year. Not sure what he has to do to get acknowledged. Yet again, he was immense yesterday. Has been Dublin's 8/10 banker in nearly every game since 2011.

I can't see how David Moran could get an All-Star. He was well below his best in all 3 games Kerry played in Croker. There are at least 3 midfielders who've had far better championships.

Most underatted player in the country and has been for most of the decade.

I don't understand the obsession with D Moran for me he has never been a stand out midfielder never consistent enough. You could pick 2 of Parsons, Fenton or McCarthy first the midfield spots. Cavanagh played as a defender all year wouldn't consider him in the same league as the 3 lads above. jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 944 - 28/08/2017 22:25:19 2039688 Link 0 |
Have to agree. Just wish we had him. Real team player.

Would have to be Kerry/Mayo split. The only other players outside these two counties to consider are C Cavanagh, P Harte and P Murphy. Harte maybe deserves a place somewhere, excellent all year and did OK on Sunday despite some close attention mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1042 - 29/08/2017 00:07:46 2039746 Link 0 |
Thread is pointless as a bad all Ireland final can take what looks like a certain all star now out of the team and likewise a good all Ireland final can put him in. It's only worth looking at players who's campaign is over. Frederick (Louth) - Posts: 479 - 29/08/2017 02:16:00 2039772 Link 0 |
That's fairly harsh on Dublin!

Cluxton has made 3 brilliant saves in each of the last 3 games, including the penalty save, has been rock solid under high balls and his distribution has been incredible, 60 yard kick into the arms of Scully was Jack Nicklaus 7 iron territory. He has been immense this year, so far.

Don't know. Saved a semi final penalty which is as big as it gets in saving terms for a keeper. Point blank and important save in the Leinster final. Saved a few thrown at him by Monaghan. Clark got more 'stops practice' as Mayo played poorly in their earlier games but not much Cluxton can do about that. Again it is Cluxton's kick outs that keeps him consistently good. His first kick out (superb one to pick out Scully) on Sunday lead directly to Dublin's first score. Not much between the two and reckon the final will decide who gets the all star.

No Roscommon didn't go far enough and no individual really stood out. Enda smith had a huge Connacht final but after that nothing
