U17's Rossies Beat Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

was in Ennis today for All Ireland U17 Semi Final. Excellent game and Rossies deserving winners. Some excellent scores from both sides but especially Roscommon's second half points. Can't name their No.11and No. 13 who were both excellent as inexplicably there was no programme for the game despite it being an All Ireland Semi-Final and a nice attendance present and a €10.00 admittance charge.

Well done to the Rossies. The future could be bright!!

Thanks for that.No.11 is Paul Carey of Padraig Pearses and No.13 is Peter Gillooly of Roscommon Gaels. Both players were superb.Kerry have outstanding underage teams with them going for 4 minor All-Ireland titles in a row.Today was a great win for Roscommon and gives us some heart again after last Monday's debacle in Croke Park.

A notable win indeed, I hear Tyrone are also very strong in this grade so the final could be a game of football worth watching, haven't got to say that too many times this year!!!

Excellent result and best of luck in the final against a decent Tyrone team.

Anyone know if the final will be shown on tv. As getting a ticket seems very unlikely which is a pity as a big roscommon crowd would go. Cheers to the original poster for a sporting thread.

As far as I know the U17 hurling final wasn't shown last week so I don't think it will be shown.

Congratulations again on ye'r fine win yesterday. Ye were the better team by a country mile.

Thanks that is a pity. Good work has gone in underage in the 12 or 13 years. The challenge remains brining that on a consistent basis in senior. It is a pity the wouldn't play it next Sunday before the kerry/mayo match

Most definitely. The county must be really commended for the work that has been put in. In this regard they have really shamed their neighbours across the Shannon in Westmeath.

Credit where credit is due, ye'r boys ate us alive and ye could have won by more, fair play to all involved and all the great work being done at underage in Roscommon .

And ya if the final was on next week ye'd have no problem getting tickets although it would be tough on Tyrone fans then having to make a double trip I suppose.

Just met friend of mine from Roscommon (who is naturally elated with result) and he was out on the bog with the Pádraig Pearses lad just last week and said young fellah was really looking forward to this match and was confident of the team's ability. A real nice young lad by all accounts and a bloody good footballer.

That is a fair enough point about the tryone support but at the same time if there senior team had lost to armagh the would be in the same boat as ourselves. It is a pity the gaa fixed the game when the dubs were probably going to be in a semi final and the ticket demands that brings. Not really thinking ahead.

Well done to our lads brilliant display.

I think the GAA are in a difficult position if they take it out of croker you take the shine off it for both teams but I still don't think that a triple header should be on when the dubs are playing as it really gives no chance to other supporters. Its an impossible position to keep everyone happy

The Under 17 Hurling Final wasn't , less than 60 seconds given to it on the Sunday Game

Strange when ultimately the plan is for U17 to replace minor grade next year that more coverage is not given to this competition.

Apparently, just under 900 tickets have been made available to Roscommon for the game. It's a pity it is part of a triple header, it means you'll have 900 Rossies and whatever cohort of Tyrone fans are happy to drag themselves to Dublin for a midday throw in in an empty stadium and then sit through a minor match that they have no part in.

No thought given to the competition at all by HQ , its been a token gesture to an age group the lads born in 2000 as its acknowledged they got shafted , there was no appetite in counties to run a once off under 18 next year with under 17 taking the title of the minor competition in 2018 , so this years under 17 competition was born , feel for the lads in both codes hurling and football as Provincial boards and HQ have really let them down , I mean did no one sit down and think beforehand ???

Its a complete joke to have it fixed when it is. We as a county will hardly get 500 tickets whereas when we played Kerry in Minor Final replay in 2006 we had 15000 at it and over 10000 for both u21 finals in recent years. Now our young lads who are playing in An All Ireland Final we be forced to play it in front over maybe 500 Roscommon supporters in and empty Croke park. Shambles, have it another week or at another venue
