Kieran Kingston manager of year?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kieran Kingston is an absolute gentleman. I hope he delivers an all-ireland for Cork, though maybe not at Kilkenny's expense!

Talk about a week being a long time in politics. Some of the topics from last week look positively dated.

Harder to evaluate Kieran's year now.

He is most improved manager of the year because Cork were so blunt under him last year. Even the great Brian Cody was a rookie, 1st year manager once.

He obviously had a good think about things over the winter because they were unrecognizable this year. In fairness to him it takes 2 - 3 years to get it right. I'd expect Cork and him to be better again next year.

Even the great Brian Cody was a rookie m

Maybe i'm being harsh Killarney but KK lost by a point in 1999 in a game they probably should have won.

Kieran Kingston has to look at a defence that leaked 4 goals last Sunday. Granted 3 of them came after Cahillane was sent off but would you not think those doubts about the defence from 2013/2014 persist?

Of course it's easy be wise in hindsight. This time last week it looked like the defence issues were settled. Also chaps like Coleman are only 19 after all. But a bit like the Rossies in football i feel your provincial crown is a little tarnished when you're subsequently beaten well by a team from your province.

But maybe when people talk about managers of the year we're too keen to look at the Derek McGraths and Kieran Kingstons, the high profile county men, rather than what Michael Ryan is doing in Westmeath etc.

Yeah, it's a funny one with Kingston cos he has improved Cork so much. Galway under O'Donoughue that have been more good than bad over the last two years and have the silverware to prove it too. Apart from the Wexford game in division 1b, Galway have been excellent all year.

I thought Colm Bonnar had a great year with Carlow and Davy with Wexford. I always liked Michael Ryan (Waterford), I think he is a very good manager, although Waterford were quick to get rid of him.

In hindsight (again!) the Wexford game early on in the year was the kick Galway needed.

Yes agree re.Michael Ryan Waterford. They were really in transition when he was there.

But the way Kingston conducted himself after last week's loss spoke volumes about the character that's in the man. I love seeing people with such a rounded view succeed. Those who see the bigger picture.

The winning manager of the All-Ireland will be manager of the year without a doubt

MOD - Took over a panel who where a core had decided Cunningham was the reason they weren't winning an All-Ireland. Without anyone really noticing, he has managed this core out of the panel and put his faith in the current bunch.

Derek McGrath - got loads of it from the experts who never managed at this level - the talkers. He had the strength to stick to what he believes in and in doing so cultivated an extremely tight bunch of players who would do anything for each other.

While Kingston has without a doubt worked wonders, I feel what Davy has done for Wexford in his first year is just remarkable.

A great year for hurling management
