Replying To keeper7:  "Distance. Mullahoran is on the border with Longford & not far at all from Leitrim whereas Cootehill is on the border with Monaghan & not far from Armagh."
In the ulster tain league division 2 this year there were teams from armagh, monaghan, louth and donegal. I myself am from Derrynoose (armagh), we traveled to termonfechin (over an hour away) garvaghy in tyrone (50 mins away) for games. played 7 out of 9 games this year (other two were conceded by the opposition). not one easy game and we finished top of the league. Travel distance is just an excuse. If you want to improve you will play in better standard of league.

I hear you lad, completely agree. We were in the league for a long time in it's previous guise, even getting to an Ulster final in 2006 I think. Think we last played in 2013 when we played Longford and Louth opposition too. We've just been hit badly by emigration. In fact, for our 25th club anniversary a few years ago, we wrote down name for an exiles team for those living away - the exiles team would have probably beaten the other team on the day. This has meant we do have a number of people (such as myself) trying to play while living away. Many of our lads are working and studying way down the country. We'd struggle to get a team together for mid-week games, especially if they're north. With our own tournament, at least we can give the lads a chance to get up to the south of the province for the games. Never say never though, we could always give it a go next year...

The "draw was"
Antrim v Armagh
Cavan v Tyrone

The dungannon hurling club play in the Antrim league at juvenile level and have been hammering the best in North Antrim. Its a potty they have to travel so far but Tyrone County are doing their best to build teams to complete with Eoghan Rau of Dungannon.

Replying To Armagh043:  "what is hard to understand? they moved up to intermediate. Just as Middletown from armagh won the intermediate in 2011 and went up to senior for a few years but moved back down because they hadnt won a senior game"
If they won the Junior in 2014 and moved up to Intermediate, and if they won the Junior this year, wouldn't that mean they're back down to Junior...? Or maybe the other guy was wrong about Caseltblaney in the first place.

ulster council hurling rules mean if you win junior or intermediate you move up to the next grade which then bars you from playing in the lower grade that you won for 5yrs, a very severe punishment especially for the counties like tyrone and Fermanagh who only have 4/5 hurling teams altogether and these are the clowns meant to be promoting hurling in ulster

what do you expect from the ulster council? definitely not a surprise just look at the stupid exclusions they have for clubs winning junior or intermediate ulster club titles and they are supposed to be the guardians and promoters of hurling and the same rules don't apply at club football

winners of this barred from playing junior ulster for the next 5yrs regardless if they win their own county junior championship?

Replying To Loughduff Lad:  "Not a surprise for us actually. We were raging after what happened last year, we had games played and good training done, and were coming out all guns blazing. Also, shame on Cavan County Board, as there were no games set to play in Cavan bar the final. Mullahoran organised their annual Lucas O'Reilly memorial tournament which meant games against Longford and Westmeath club opposition. Sad state of affairs when you have to organise your own tournament and games to keep fresh as the County Board won't set up any decent league or championship."
your not alone in having to look beyond your county border, welcome to ulster hurling and thanks to Armagh, derry and antrim for allowing outsiders the chance to play in their leagues

Mullahoran v Na Magha
Setanta v winners of Gort Na Mona/Derrynoose

A huge win surely. They were well worth it too, maybe their huge county final win wasn't such a once off and they are just going well. Not many people gave them a chance. In fact some here had NCC down for the win even after they were beat. Great to see for hurling in the county and hope things can move on. Na Magha from Derry are up next and that'll be a very tough one.
