Croke Park Hotel Bistro

(Oldest Posts First)

What a disaster. Someone should have told them that a full house was expected in Croke Park today. We were inside their door at 12.50. Queuing for 1 hour and 20 mins to get into the bistro. About 20 in front of us ( including children). Got a table gave our order. 2 course special. Waited 40 minutes on the first course and had to leave 10 minutes before throw in of first match while still waiting on our dessert. Never again. Called into A wee country restaurant coming home. Half the staff and they had carvery going and dessert and were serving bus loads coming from the matches in a fraction of the time.

You picked a terrible place to eat. The place was always going to be way too busy. You should have known there was a full house, done your research and gone elsewhere.

82,300 in Croke park yesterday apparently and you are eating in a place across the road.
You couldn't pick a worse place if you tried.
Go back to the sangwiches and tae outa the boot and keep your money.

80000 people in Croke park and you pick the nearest place to eat, what did you expect? There are plenty of places to eat that are 10-15 minutes walk from Croke park.

Lots of much better places in the area to eat then that rip off spot, especially with a full house in Croker too.

That Pizza place beside the station isn't bad. Good friendly staff, decent grub. I've seen people book tables in advance but they'd feed you if there was a while before a table was gonna be occupied.

Going to let you into a secret

If Croker is sold out

1) the hotel closest to the stadium will be busy
2) it won't be easy to get out of the clonliffe road. car park
3) you might have to queue for the jacks in the stadium ( especially if you are female)
4) cold oven chips at 4 euro a carton probably isn't the most economical way to fodder yourself
5) the barman in croker isn't going to lovingly craft a 3 stage pour pint of guinness in a pre chilled glass

And if it's AI final weekend you will probably queue to get into coppers ( unless you are a copper)

Otherwise it's a fairly big town so there maybe second third and fourth options -
Go figure !

Ray Silke was on the wireless yesterday and let it slip that he was eating Gluten-free fish and chips in Croke Park. I didn't even know that Raymond was a hipster.

This is my favourite post of the week, well it's a toss up between this and the one complaining about the carpark on Clonliffe Road.

What in God's name do you expect from a hotel/bistro (and car park) located within spitting distance of a ground that holds 82k AND is a sell-out?

Rookie error you won't make again.

As for the wee bistro you stopped off at on the way home. Maybe they had less staff on (and a quicker service) because they weren't catering for 1000s. Just a wild guess.

There were less than 20 people in front of us and we waited an hour and 20 minutes for 20 people to be served. I wouldn't exactly call that 1000s. I am sure they knew that there were crowds coming. The wee restaurant on the way home was serving bus loads of people. The difference was that they were organised.
Its the same old story.. Fail to prepare.
Prepare for a fail.

Exactly.

When you leave yourself no other option but to eat in the closest restaurant to a sold out 80k plus capacity stadium you really have failed to prepare and risk the inevitable delays.
