Interesting article on Hoganstand re Cannings take on things as County player and as an amateur. Good to see he has things in perspective wish more were like him both on/off the pitch. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4892 - 05/08/2017 12:29:22 2029239 Link 0 |
I just wish he'd stay out of the media until the job is complete! galwayfan (None) - Posts: 764 - 05/08/2017 13:31:49 2029256 Link 2 |
7/1 for first goalscorer tomorrow seems worth a shot SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2385 - 05/08/2017 13:51:55 2029264 Link 0 |
I agree totally! Just reminds me of Tom Parsons etc and the 'smiley face syndrome' when the job was half done by Mayo after the drawn All-Ireland last year. You can't beat complete focus. Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 05/08/2017 14:07:48 2029272 Link 5 |
Yeah he is dead right too. I wonder is he trying to wind Tipp up too with Barrett dropped and Tipp players slated for having pints after losing to Limerick in 2014. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 05/08/2017 14:08:47 2029273 Link 0 |
You never see the dublin footballers giving interviews like that. They're successful for a reason. All their focus is on playing football and that's why they're winners tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 05/08/2017 15:22:20 2029291 Link 0 |

Very true though about soccer and rugby lads having the few drinks to relax and unwind post match as opposed to the binge culture of the gaa when fellas finish their 6 mts off the drink. And it's unfair to label it a gaa binge drink culture, it's really an Irish thing. Sad to think a fella could be off drink 9 mts of the year and do more damage to himself in binges over the other 3. Kind of impossible for him really. Journalists want interviews. When Galway are one of the teams Canning's the man they want to talk to. People are always complaining that games are not being promoted properly and are not getting media focus. Well if one of the main players in the game is out of bounds for interviews then there will be very little to write about. GAA people need to make up their minds -- do they want our games promoted or do they want to keep them under the radar and let other sports get the exposure.

Growing up GAA I noticed 2 types of fans also, alcoholics and pioneers. maroondiesel (Mayo) - Posts: 1193 - 05/08/2017 16:08:04 2029309 Link 1 |
I think some of the comments here prove him right about the unrealistic and delusional expectations of GAA fans. These players owe none of you or no one nothing, zilch, zero. He was not talking about the game ahead at all whats he supposed to do lock himself in a room and watch a clock count down to throw in? Whast this about focusing on game ahead? I don't think any of you read the article. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4892 - 05/08/2017 21:20:54 2029479 Link 5 |
The man gave an interview. Who the hell cares. Its nice to see Joe canning the person talk and not Joe Canning the hurler. Do people expect him to be consumed by hurling morning , noon and night because they need a reality check if thats the case. The man has a life outside hurling like every other hurler. fireinthebelly (Galway) - Posts: 89 - 05/08/2017 23:33:07 2029538 Link 3 |
Ahh Stephen Cluxton? The most talked about player in the GAA and also Dublin Captain. You never see at this type of stuff.

I think Joe, and everyone else on that panel, might have a little more experience when it comes to balancing their focus on the game with their media duties, than some of the hurlers on the ditch here. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3097 - 06/08/2017 02:39:59 2029574 Link 1 |
If you listened to some of the muppets on here no player would say 2 words again until they had multiple All-Ireland medals in their pocket. Marooned (Galway) - Posts: 2198 - 06/08/2017 05:26:00 2029586 Link 4 |
I notice there has been no comments on this thread since the semi final. Assuming that means that Joe's performance has shut up all the naysayers. Here's some classic GAA logic; If you do an interview and play well it has nothing to do with the interview. However play poorly and it has everything to do with it. Even though Joe didn't play well for the full game against Tipp he was there when it mattered. I think there's a new maturity about Joe this year. His interview after was so composed, looks driven. Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 18/08/2017 10:43:06 2035029 Link 6 |
However - I do like the fact that people expressed their opinion before the match. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1410 - 18/08/2017 13:13:37 2035098 Link 1 |
I stand to be corrected. I felt he shouldn't have done the Vincent Hogan interview but obviously the man is in control. Still no show like a Joe Show! Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 18/08/2017 17:15:55 2035187 Link 5 |
