Players having 1/2 good seasons then disapearing?

(Oldest Posts First)

was talking to a chap from Cavan recently and asked him what the story was with Martin Dunne?..an excellent scoring forward up their clash with Armagh in 2014, the brawl behind the flag etc. Dunnes arm was broken in that brawl,...has returned but I don't think he has ever hit the early 2014 heights..is he even on the panel these days..I always look at such players and wonder "what if"...

Jonjo Farrell, talked up for hurler of the year after the Leinster Final last year. Dropped for the All-Ireland, didn't even pick up an All star at the end of the season.

He's not on the panel and is coaching in Cavan these days.

Scored 0-09 against Armagh a year earlier so no surprise that they targeted him when they got the chance!

Roy Malone of Offaly, unstoppable in 97 and faded fast after that.

big time.

from my own counties perspective and from recent times it would be eamonn wallace for me,was brilliant in his debut season and is still only 23 now,but since he did his cruciate he doesn't seem to have the same confidence or use his lightning pace..

Ah Killarney come on? Are you serious?! There's a reason why he didn't play after that

Was thinking of this the other day, not so much half season players but players whose career was cut short for one reason or another.

Watching the 2011 final, MOTM was Kevin Nolan. Fantastic point, his first ever championship point. Looked set up for many more great days but was not to be. Still , great legacy to have hit a wonder point in an A1 final .

Alan Freeman came into a struggling Mayo team as a twenty year old in 2010, and absolutely stood out as the real deal. Had and still has all the attributes to be a star full forward and very skillful. After standing out that debut year his progress seemed to be stunted by factors, some of which may have had more to do with tactical preferences and others to do with squad cohesion. He often found himself being hauled off in games where he was playing well to the bewilderment of supporters. He withdrew from the squad last year and who knows if he'll have a second coming like the likes of Colm Boyle and Tom Parsons have had. I hope he does.
