Something just as vulgar happened at the end of Tommy Lyons run in charge of Dublin jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 25/07/2017 12:19:09 2023124 Link 1 |
I don't even this that is what you call you passion, that is pure ignorance and stupidity. I don't think any real GAA personnel would do that to any manager or player. If you can't support a team when their having lows don't bother supporting them at all. I'm sure people may have disagreed with managers decisions but this has no place in the game whatsoever. I wouldn't be surprised if Gallagher is dumped before the 2018 campaign and after the following abuse I would like to see him step down. For all the service that he has given them throughout his life this man owes Donegal sweet FA. As a result this shines badly on the whole county not just the minority of people that was hurling abuse at his father. Why would anyone want to step into that role if that's how they are treated. I would say that this incident must have happened if Brian McEniff felt the need to address it publicly. It's an absolute disgrace if it did. Every county has its eejits but when behaviour above and beyond what is acceptable it's important to highlight it.

Couldn't agree more! I'm a father myself (luckily) so when I put myself in Mr Gallagher's shoes... well it's f*****g abhorrent behaviour. To be subjected to listening to some underling talk about your child like that... It's must be truly maddening and I wish Mr Gallagher the very best from my family to his. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 25/07/2017 14:09:09 2023242 Link 1 |
It does not shine badly on the whole county of Donegal and it's supporters. Why would you say that? It only reflects poorly on the mouthpieces that were shouting the abuse and there's these types of @ssholes that follow every team.

Tommy got an awful time towards the end of his Dublin tenure. I remember people spitting at him as he walked off in Croker.

Firstly, in GAA we call it Passion, in soccer its called Hooliganism! Liamwalkinstown (Dublin) - Posts: 8166 - 25/07/2017 14:44:48 2023267 Link 2 |

True I made sure to get that point across in my first line. I've said my piece on this now Honestly feel for Mr Gallagher having to be subjected to such vile abuse No father should have to listen to something like that especially about a son so who has given an awful lot of good to Donegal GAA jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 25/07/2017 15:00:54 2023278 Link 1 |
To me this goes beyond being a poor "GAA fan" regardless of where they were form. People who can live with themselves insulting an old man whose only crime was attending and supporting his son at an amateur sports event are vacuous morons.

That's right, that's the incident I was pointing to up above Disgraceful carry on It's similar to this story.. grown men that should know better but just lose it altogether jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 25/07/2017 15:44:46 2023306 Link 0 |
Again couldn't agree more. Hope they can identify the guilty party / parties and hopefully they'll be named and shamed within the GAA community or perhaps even banned. It that possible.. to give supporters a ban from attending games? The likes of that don't deserved to be within 100 yards of a GAA pitch jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 25/07/2017 16:14:12 2023324 Link 1 |
In all honesty I've seen some horrible behaviour in the stands over the years and it has amped up in the past 15 years or so but it rarely gets coverage. There was a league match where I saw a man in his 60s from the opposing county grab a 16-year old Donegal fan by the neck because he'd dared to call for a free from the ref. This was just a couple years ago. JoeSoap (Donegal) - Posts: 1432 - 25/07/2017 16:30:42 2023339 Link 0 |
It was a disgraceful thing to happen and deserves to be condemned outright. Yet, at quite a lot of games that I go to, I hear supporters shouting horrific abuse at players, often their own players, even though there may be family members of those players among the attendance. If you suggest that they stop, you then become the focus of abuse neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 25/07/2017 17:35:37 2023377 Link 0 |
