Why are Kerry considered as better than Mayo?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

In defence of Mayo's forward line, I will say I never much rated the forwards Cork possessed during the 2000's and they managed an All-Ireland! So, you know, sometimes you can land the big fish without the right bait.

Kerry would most likely beat Mayo if they met in the Championship but there's not much evidence to suggest that they would do better than Mayo have done against Dublin. Mayo have actually beaten Dublin in the Championship this decade and have also ran them much closer than Kerry have managed to in the games they have lost.

Seriously? I thought Cork had great forwards and almost everyone rated them highly. Unfortunately the Cork forwards themselves didn't rate themselves that highly.

If Mayo get that far they'll need to find their best performance of the year to date to stand a chance of beating Kerry in Croke Park

On current form I'd fancy Kerry to win with relative comfort

Ah Hermie....if we may be serious for a minute....!!

Goulding, Kerrigan, O'Connor, Kelly in their pomp, Pearse O'Neill etc
A young Colm O'Neill and Ciaran Sheehan

How could you not rate them??

If anything they under delivered

They won an All-Ireland in 2010 and not one of their forwards was an All-Star that year, I think that was a justified (if controversial) decision.

In fairness to mayo they are incredibly consistent and have got every last bit out of the players they have. They are still clear 3rd in the pecking order. I'd back them all day long against Tyrone. They won me a fortune last year against them

Let me guess the OP Forpucksake (UK) is ether playing the full yerra kerry or he is a Mayo man pretending to be from Kerry and trying to catch a few flies on here?

Because they're inconsistent, because they've never won anything and because they leak daft goals. And because Kerry has the 2 of the most dangerous forwards in the country.

Kerry have played better football on a more consistent basis over the past 9 months.
I fancy Mayo's chances of changing some peoples opinions over the course of the next month or so.
Big performances left in this Mayo team.

Cant see Mayo getting much further
They are hitting that 5 / 6 year cycle and haven't really changed the squad
I was listening to a Rugby coach, who mentioned this cycle teams go through,
they eventually breakdown. Its important to introduce fresh talent to counter this cycle.
Happens to all teams in every sport

7 or less of the team that played Cork in 2011 will play them tomorrow. Assuming there that Parsons and Durcan will be in for Seamus and Donie. It's not so much that changes haven't been made over the past 6 years, moreso that they haven't improved things dramatically, especially in the forwards.

The impression I always get is Dublin play Mayo and they don't really rate them.
The play well below par and still get over the line.
The always step it up against us, you ask most Dubs their hardest game was last year's semi.
No disrespect to Mayo but 2014 was your year and they blew it.
No one would begrudge Mayo an all Ireland but I believe this current team are 1/2 years past their best.

There was nothing between them for a few years but I fear Mayo have dropped a little and Kerry are improving. Still be a hell of a game though!

Simple really, Mayo could contest the next 10 all Ireland finals and they'd still not win it.
The reason COC is unliked is not related to his ability for me.

Is it now accepted that Mayo are the second best team in Ireland, and the most likely team to end Dublins dominance?

Anyone listening to Terrace Talk on Monday, the lads reckon Mayo are not up to the job, unlike themselves of course, Jimmy Deenihan and company saying that if it had of been Kerry playing Dublin last Sunday, Kerry would have beat them. Where on earth do they get some of their notions from?

Is funny how quickly things can turn around. When Mayo were going down to the wire with Derry, Cork, Roscommon(1st time), Kerry (1st time) people were saying " somebody please put this team out of it's misery " and thought Kerry would in the Semi and Semi replay, but they didn't.

Mayo were in a many tight situations this year so their consistency will be questioned but it's all about coming good at the right time. Mayo in the semi replay and final on Sunday showed they are fantastic team. Also, not losing in those tight situations against Derry, Cork, Roscommon and Kerry ( they could have gone out of AI 4 times this year) also tells me they have an abundance of character.

For me, Mayo are the 2nd best team in Ireland. Kerry a very close 3rd
