I've always had massive time for Donegal but I can't believe Gallagher isn't going to walk after this Galway debacle..what a panel of players they have, Leo in the states...and not a notion on the sideline.. hannigantiptoe (Roscommon) - Posts: 39 - 24/07/2017 03:03:19 2022208 Link 3 |
Galway will be stronger next year with addition from this years U21 finalists (currently on J 1's) as well as the development of all the 22-23 year olds on this years team and panel

Galway have shown to either: 1) Fail to have a plan B for when things aren't going their way, or 2) Fail to implement a plan B if there is one This was shown via Tipp and Rossies, who in fairness won both games handy and no argument here, but when a team has their foot on your throat, you have to stand up and fight and change something. Galway will be stronger next year for sure, dont forget corofin and their club success too. There is great caliber in their county for football. The appetite was not there recently, I would guess for political and personal reasons at inter county level, but now they are winning and that will change. Would echo most of the posts in here, it's great to see Galway at their best like that as hard as it was as a Donegal man. They won't get anywhere near such an easy ride against Kerry but I hope they take a huge amount of confidence from Saturday and go at the Kingdom. Much like Meath or Down, Galway are a great traditional team and it's hard to get a hand on them when they start motoring. JoeSoap (Donegal) - Posts: 1432 - 24/07/2017 15:31:15 2022650 Link 0 |
I find it gas when people say "mayo are motoring nicely now". They were rubbish against Sligo, Derry, first half of Clare and Cork too. They're stuttering and stumbling along and falling over the line with huge slices of luck against mediocre teams, not motoring nicely. I give Roscommon a huge chance and if they play like they did in the Connacht final they'll win. Rocky.Road (Galway) - Posts: 374 - 24/07/2017 17:35:14 2022730 Link 0 |
Big 'if'. One thing Ross are not is consistent.

I think they have played 9 championship games against div 2 and 3 teams in the last 2 years and have struggled in large parts of all of them..i still think they will beat Roscommon but as usuasl will make hard work and then Kerry will beat them..

Don't be worrying about what people are saying about Mayo. We are stuttering along but at least back in the quarter finals.

They will up it again v Ross. Good luck to all remaining Connaught teams. Change is a good thing for the game now. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 24/07/2017 19:59:30 2022797 Link 1 |
Was delighted to see Mayo come through . That team didn't deserve to die against a Cork outfit with plenty of talent but couldn't be bothered to make an honest effort until Saturday. We are guaranteed at least one Connacht team in the semi finals and should Kerry emerge they would get a contest from a team like Mayo instead of Cork rolling over for them again.

Big rebuilding programme needed in Donegal. The problem Rory seemed to have was that he had to bring in a lot young players (lads who had played a lot of football this year) and the older, more experienced players simply didn't have it in the legs any more to provide the support and back-up for the youngsters. McBrearty was perhaps the only experienced player to reach the level of Donegal players of a few years ago. It's going to be a big task for any new manager (if Rory goes) because the young lads took two massive hits to their confidence, something that is not easy repair Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1092 - 25/07/2017 00:40:31 2022923 Link 0 |
Why you bringing up Mayo in a Galway vs Donegal thread?
