You are full of the joys... How do you mean barely enough to get promoted? They finished top, and then beat Kildare in Croke park.

Donegal fell over the line against Meath, regardless of the Connacht final defeat Galway are a better side than Meath. You must also take in account that Donegal used up a lot of their energy in this years league and their U21s were overplayed. This is a Very hard game to call might take extra time to separate the two. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3338 - 19/07/2017 14:35:00 2019316 Link 0 |
Fancy Galway by a few points here. Donegal are an adverage enough side and will take them a few years to get back to the top. Galway have better players and a better manager Cuckoosinging (Roscommon) - Posts: 992 - 19/07/2017 14:51:43 2019326 Link 0 |
Getting more nervous as the game draws closer. Galway have the type of player to really cause us problems. JoeSoap (Donegal) - Posts: 1432 - 19/07/2017 16:02:05 2019364 Link 0 |
Technically, I suppose we did finish in the top spot winning the final, but on points we were second and nearly lost out to Meath. As for me being full of the joys, I can't help it bud. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this team is too tuned in on how to play in Div 2, and to expect them to turn on a whole new style to start playing championship football is a big ask. I'm not all doom and gloom though, unlike others I could mention I don't think a lose here would be the end of the world or mean the end of KW. It'll serve as a good reminder that come next February we'll be mixing it with the big boys and need to step our game up. I'm going to wait to see what game plan KW develops to compete at that level before I start calling for his head. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3097 - 19/07/2017 17:42:46 2019457 Link 0 |
Galway will take it by a couple of points Donegal looked very good in the league they have been very poor in the championship Galway are better than they looked against the Rossies wfkerry (USA) - Posts: 933 - 19/07/2017 19:06:13 2019500 Link 0 |
If Galway heads are right and they have any pride they'll take Donegal by 5/6 points. Donegal are still living off the JMcG era and will slip out of the top 8 within 2 years Sindar (Roscommon) - Posts: 348 - 19/07/2017 23:08:06 2019652 Link 2 |
I'd love to be wrong that's for sure! Unless we start scoring goals I think we'll be in trouble. Donegal have proven goal scorers and our defense leaves a lot to be desired. Big Kev definitely has his hands full trying to figure out that Gordian knot before the weekend!

Cant see donegal sliiping out of the top 8 any time soon because of the mix of all ireland winners and new players coming through. They are still ahead of Monaghan, kildare, galway and Roscommon in 5th place

A few weeks ago I thought this would be a potential quarter final and I'd have been confident going into it, unfortunately a mixture of a great performances from the Ros and a woeful Galway performance put pay to that. TheWestIsAwake (UK) - Posts: 529 - 20/07/2017 10:17:06 2019788 Link 1 |
Interesting take on it, if Galway win they will face Kerry as they have already played Roscommon. Do you think that might affect them psychologically? Or do they just take it one game at a time? If Galway get their heads right then they have every chance of beating Donegal. I'd say its a 50/50/ game.

Donegal still have players like Michael Murphy, Neil Mcgee, Paddy Mcbrearty and Ryan Mchugh with an exciting group of young players coming through so won't be going anywhere soon. They are in danger of dropping out of the top 8 as tactically they are not evolving like the other top sides but this is not down to the quality of player they possess. So any dropping out of the top 8 will not be for long I would hope.

Lots of ifs and buts with Galway, we're the only team to have beaten Mayo in the last 5 championships apart from Kerry & Dublin and we've beaten them twice but the way we've been beaten by Tipp & Roscommon leaves a lot of questions about this lot. Long term Galway football is going in the right direction, won the last 3 connacht minor titles and our u21's reached the All Ireland final. We'll be waiting on some new defenders from that u21 team to take the team to the next level if not even longer and it might not happen at all, we've too many average defenders and everyone knows that. I do think there will be enough quality coming through over the next 2 or 3 years so its not all doom and gloom. TheWestIsAwake (UK) - Posts: 529 - 20/07/2017 12:03:22 2019869 Link 1 |
It's amazing how negative comments filter their way all the way down,so much so kevin walsh, has spoken about all the negative comments on social media and get behind the team.Well I hope all the negative comments are used as a motivation factor,no doubt they will need it.let it rain like he'll today, don't want to see any tomorrow!! cornetto (Galway) - Posts: 223 - 21/07/2017 09:17:16 2020380 Link 0 |
I like Kevin Walsh as a manager, thought he did a great job with Sligo with limited resources. He definitely has improved Galway and they will be playing in Division 1 next year. The only two blots on his copybook are the defeats to Tipp last year and Roscommon this year. I really expect Galway to be major challengers in the next few years. As for the game with Donegal it will really depend on how they can recover from the defeat to Roscommon. Going on past history, the defeated provincial finalists always find it difficult. Donegal are not exactly pulling up trees so I'd say its a 50/50 game. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1873 - 21/07/2017 11:25:54 2020455 Link 0 |
I am not going to play up or down our chances. Donegal to win narrowly, possibly after extra time. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 21/07/2017 12:12:25 2020493 Link 0 |
From Tyrone's point of view I would rather play Galway than Donegal and their record in the 4th round qualifiers is enough for me to give Donegal the vote. Byanthon (Tyrone) - Posts: 1780 - 21/07/2017 15:30:08 2020617 Link 0 |
I think it'll be a close enough game but that hopefully our more experienced big game payers like Murphy, McHugh, McBrearty etc can see us through. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9116 - 21/07/2017 15:32:46 2020618 Link 0 |
Galway were very disappointing in the connaught final I have a slight fancy for Donegal jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 944 - 22/07/2017 16:03:00 2020954 Link 0 |
Agree think Donegal - Galways defeat against a relatively poor Roscommon team still raw with them and don't think they will be able to pick themselves up. Donegal slowly but surely making their way to another quarter final for me.
