(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

ormond you can travel on national roads/motorway all the way from ennis to thurles and therefore anywhere before ennis to thurles. you can go via train from ennis to limerick and then thurles quite easily.

janesboro can you - well the usual way from limerick city to thurles is via nenagh borroleigh and drom - please advise what national road goes from nenagh to thurles, if going from east calre youd use that route too
buses can be arranged booked if you dont want to go on the trains. Janesboro its very easy to go via train from ennis to limerick to thurles. there is regular trains(not at moment as line has works going on ...)

ormond: and for cork fans. thurles is just off the m8 motorway to cork and thurles is on the main cork dublin train line so thurles is perfectly between cork and clare
janesboro: what bus routes directly do from ennis and cork to thurles ?
janesboro (Limerick) - Posts:1355 - 20/06/2017 13:51:58
why focus so much on buses? thurles is on the main train line. thurles easily accessible.

Probably heresy to say this as a Limerick man but my favourite venue for a hurling match is Thurles. The experience might be better in Croker with fancy burgers in nice wrapping for a ball of cash but Thurles just has something special about it.

I've been to a lot of games in our own ground in Limerick and the ones that live long in the memory are of course the day Ciaran Carey got that greatest score of all time and the 2013 Munster Final, but when we have won in Thurles there is usually a massive sense of achievement, like that 1994 Munster Final for example. Plus there was our Intermediates winning the All-Ireland there against Kilkenny in 1998 and the 3 in a row side from the U21 run 2000-2002 won all three All-Ireland's there as well as the 2002 Munster U21 final.

Lastly the Feile's there in 1992-94 were massive craic too.

Janesboro. you are trying to make it out that thurles is in bloody outer mongolia. and can you ever grow up whinging about red thumbs!!!
the game shouldnt be in limerick "end of". i know its your home county but christ open your eyes some what. Why is limerick rarely chosen over thurles for big games. people simply prefer thurles for lots of reasons.

anesboro times have week and truly moved on. You said to me above that all you get in any ground is taytos and chocolate. That is so far off the mark it's untrue.

i didnt say that mike check my post

Any modern ground now has hot food and a bar. Compare the set up at the back of either stand in Thurles to what is available in the Gaelic grounds.

yep slayer i love thurles too but limerick is equally as good

clare in 96 and cork in 2013 live in the memory as well as
cork in 94 with joe quaids saves, 1996 munster final comeback and 2013 v tipp
a bittersweet is the 2004 munster football final v kerry - oh we got so close to winning that one
2011 munster under 21 final was a classic even the 2015 under 21 games

My favourite thurles memory is 2014 v tipp, 1994 munster final was a great one too , but we hae had some bad defeats there too tipp in 97, cork in 2000 , tipp 2002, offaly in 2003 on the thursday night is one which grated us for years afterwards

i am not i am merely making the point that limerick is more accessible to clare people and even some cork people than thurles is
-maybe you can show me some facts that suggests thurles is closer to clare than limerick -

Tipp 2002 was in Cork, we lost unluckily to Cork in Thurles, in the qualifiers, that year

it is a match people are going to and people want to be comfortable at a game and you are very arrogant to say if you want hot food at a game go to a pub. People want the best of standards in facilities and saying if you want hot good or a bar go to a pub/restuarant is very arrogant. So should Thomond Park get rid of its bars and food stalls then? Should Croke Park do the same?
It is far from as simple as saying just bring food with you. people quite often dont want to travel carrying a large bag with food for 2/3/4 or more people. what if you are in a large group?
Can you name any major stadium that willingly decided to remove all facilities as fans were just bringing their own food? You live in a very naive world if you think that people will all just bring food with them.
Dont be naive. Saying peoples minds are just on the game and they wont be able to eat. That affects very few people in the overall percentage of attendees at a game.

if you actually bothered to go to a championship game you will see lots of people do a helluv lot
go to any of the car parks aroudn thurles on championship day - people in every car do be eating sandwiches and having picnics in the car , its part of championship tradition

Boro you are like a dog with a bone. Just let it go. Limerick is a run down dilapidated stadium. That's why it doesn't get any big games bar it's one owed to us. It's as simple as that.

thats exactly my point its so much nearer to clare and only slightly further in travel time from cork city in some cases its actually its a shorter trip from cork (say charleville, mallow, west cost ) than thurles, makes sense to me to play it in limerick

i though myself last years munster final should ahve been played in thurles (nearer for all fans)"
The road from cork to limerick is terrible though I never understood why they haven't built a proper motorway as they are two cities yet you have to travel through towns like buttervent where the pot holes are that big they have set up a ufo watch.
