grand until a wexford man hits it to a galway man!

Replying To Pinkie:  "I can't wait for this match already. I hope we can at least give Galway a good game! All the pressure is on Galway, we are already in bonus territory having being promoted from 1B and beaten Kilkenny twice while blooding a new team.
McDonald is a huge loss for us, Shaun Murphy is also doubtful. 2 of our best players.
Funnily, I think all the focus on Galway, Wexford, Cork, etc - Tipp and Kilkenny are waiting in the wings and I think Tipp are still the dark horses for a back-door route to lifting Liam McCarthy in September."
Hhhmmmmm have you any cold water we could use to pour over galway's chances, this game really is 50/50. Wexford have beaten KK twice this year (when has this last/ever happened) one in their home patch. In fact they have beaten 2 of the top 4 teams for the last 2 years ie galway and kk this year and they also beat cork last year a team that is on the rise again. Wexfords fitness could really put galway to the pin of their collars. Yes Conor Mc would be a loss for them but Galway may be without cathal mannion. I think and i hope the glynn will be back for this one and be put on the edge of the square for this one. I thought wexford looked shaky under the high ball against KK and is something galway can exploit. Surprised cody didnt stick walter welsh up beside fennelly their loss i guess ;-)

First of all a little context is needed. Wexford beat Galway early in the league - having worked very hard over the winter and Galway welcoming back the St Thomas players, despite being in a comfortable position in the second half at one stage. A few questionable decisions also went their way. Cork were a shambles last year and are nowhere near the team we have seen in the last few weeks. I also wonder how Wexford would have managed a kk team with a fully fit Padraig Walsh and Richie Hogan.

I also would not fear Wexford over running Galway. Galway right now are a team of supremely fit players who will last the full 70 mins. All 6 Galway forwards are big men who can all win their own possession and more importantly can take their own score, to me the wexford defense appears a little suspect. More than likely they will play with a sweeper too. Whats pleasing to see this year, unlike for example against Laois a few years ago where they struggled with the sweeper, they now have the know how and composure to deal with it as seen against Dublin and also 2 sweepers against Offaly.

Also, Johnny Glynn cannot be parachuted straight into the full forward line. First of all he is recovering from knee surgery and if he was named on the team for the Leinster final having not being training the last few weeks - what kind of a message would that send to the subs training a few times a week every week and to their morale!!

All Valid points!

I think Galway will welcome the favourites tag, but with the caveat that the need to work like dogs to keep it and also that this year is really a bigger picture year - the shortest route to Liam and trample over anything and anyone that stands in the way of that target. I honestly think that, that's the main thinking in the camp this year.

I wouldn't worry about fitness being an issue, Galway a very young, strong and athletic team - they got plenty of shooting practice at the weekend.

They're certainly not a very young side DOC but they are a mature side in the best sense of that word and most of the players are at or coming to that age (26,27,28) when they should be at the height of their careers and the peak of their powers.

With all due respect to Dublin and Offaly's sweeper system I don't think you can say they have the know how to beat it until they beat Wexford. Waterford are the one team that Galway haven't really shown up against in the last few years. This years league game was going the same way until McGrath rang the changes (albeit it with arguably better players coming on).
Galway are rightly favourites but as a neutral I can't wait for this one

I wish I was optimistic! But whoever comes out of the qualifiers from Waterford, KK or Tipp will have serious momentum coming into a Q final and would likely be favourites to get to a semi too. Will make for an interesting year

I didnt make a prediction...i was replying to fireinthebelly in which he noted wexford beat cork last year and stated correctly that cork are on the rise this year. However, the cork team last year was a shambles compared to this year. I think it was valid to point out that wexford struggled to get over kk and a fully fit padraig walsh would have made a huge difference. I also highlighted that wexford are suspect in defense, I probably should have stated i feel Galway are also suspect, however, the galway forwards are of a much higher calibre compared to wexford.

The league game will have no impact what so ever on the leinster final apart from being a close contest, which i feel the leinster final will be.

Padraig Walsh is an All Star - how many wexford players have All Stars? In fact the only player on Wexford Id rate higher than Walsh is Lee Chin and maybe Conor McDonald

Galway to wear white and Wexford to wear gold so they don't clash... why doesn't Galway wear their maroon and Wexford the gold so there's a proper contrast? Wexford should be wearing gold as their main jersey anyway, in my opinion.

I'd like to see a mixture of gold and purple but I get what you're saying, it certainly shouldn't be reduced to some piping and the main part of the sponsor logo. That said I like both of this season's jerseys. Takes me back to the oul rave scene of the late 80s / early 90s.

Hard to go past Galway after the League win. Wexford will need goals which is not beyond them. They've definitely created a huge amount of goal chances this year, if they can finish them a bit better I think we will have a really good chance. I don't think we have seen the best of Guinney yet and in my opinion at top form he could dismantle Galway on his own. If he fires I'd not like to be a Galway back.

I cannot see Galway doing the ball into the box tactic unless they are behind and need the goals. I think it would be a mistake for them.
They've too much class across the field and I expect they will try to pick points off and run at the Wexford defence to either go for goals or win the close range frees.
