Tyrone - The real deal

Replying To IrishGael3:  "From what I saw Tyrone had 5 cert goal chances so not sure what your point is!!!"
My point is they didn't take their goal chances and they gave us plenty goal chances too. A better team than us today, would have pinished them for that.

Not that hard if you read the post like.

Tyrone look excellent against both Derry and Donegal. I'd slightly discount the result against Derry as unfortunately Derry football is not in a good place at all. However the dismantling of a good Division One team like Donegal was very impressive.

It was an enjoyable performance to watch but they'll have to up their goal conversion rate and stop conceding goal scoring opportunities I think. It'd be far worse if they weren't creating those chances though.

Looking like a very competitive championship this year alright.

Great to see sides improving.

A great win but Donegal didn't really perform, stage fright perhaps for the youngsters, I expect a much stiffer test against Monaghan.

I didn't see that performance coming considering how insipid Tyrone were against Kerry in the last day or the League and how they struggled early on to get over a poor enough Derry side, but they certainly made a big statement yesterday.

Still I think a possible Ulster final against Monaghan would tell us a lot more where Tyrone are really at. Donegal were so poor yesterday its hard to be definitive yet.

Tyrone are the real deal for sure, can't see why people are trying to nit pick their performances, especially in the championship. They weren't far away last year and have improved since. They have this ability to manufacture a score regardless what defensive system is in front of them. They will be a major challenge to Dublin in the quarter or semi final

Tyrone were equally as bad against Kerry in their last league game of 2005 but went on to win the all-Ireland. League form is hard to work out at times but Tyrone played 5 weeks in a row in the league and in the last three games looked very heavy legged which suggested to me that they were in heavy training. Scores of 22 points against Derry and 1-21 against Donegal at least may show that Tyrone are looking at other ways to cover the lack of having a big marquee forward. Games against Derry, Donegal and I assume Monaghan should bring these players on and I think Croke Park will see the best of them.

Sunday was my third time seeing Tyrone in the flesh this year, and it was mightily impressive. Playing football with such speed and accuracy will be hard to stop at both Ulster and All Ireland level. One worry I would have if I was a Tyrone fan would be their shooting, it was unbelievable at the weekend, a lot of their scores even more impressive in the flesh than they looked on the TV, but can they keep that up for the whole summer? Every Tyrone fan will agree that 8 wides on Sunday is an awful lot lower than the norm for them in recent years (I'm sure the last 10 minutes against Mayo last year springs to mind!), if the wide count begins to rise then I am not sure they have enough to win an All Ireland but they won't be far off it either way. Both sets of Down and Monaghan players should be chomping at the bit to have a crack off them.

Replying To Triple H:  "I was unsure whether this Tyrone team was as good as some were making out looking at them in earlier league games and the likes. But I have to say they really do look like real contenders for the All Ireland. Their defence is good but the pace and intent they move forward with is very impressive.

They teased this for a few years but today it looks like they are a genuine contender. Makes things very interesting going forward."
We can win it. .. but will we? Probably not.

Loss to Monaghan. Could happen. I did not rate Donegal this year anyhow. Was fully sure we would hammer them out the gate. ... but Monaghan that's another story and we will get a good test if not a loss.

Tyrone were flattered by what was a very poor and flat Donegal performance on Sunday, and this uncontested game has failed to provide clues to any potential weaknesses in the Tyrone armour.

As said previously, Tyrone, with their Club Tyrone, set up market themselves well. They always have a good winter, and this year benefited from a weak Ulster Championship. They basically have no forwards, you can get so far, but no team will an win an All Irealand without forwards. It is hard to know where Tyrone go from here.

What is gone wrong with Ulster football? Maybe I'm being harsh considering everyone is behind Dublin and Kerry/Mayo the last few years but I think its time now for the tactics to be shaken up a bit and teams to go back to the more traditional ways. Having said that maybe the talent isn't just their at the minute. Armagh, Tyrone and Down in the 90's were brilliant teams full of brilliant individuals.

Jim Mcguinness brought in a woeful brand of football that everyone copied and now cant get out of. That is what is wrong with Ulster.

It has looked to me like there has been far too much focus on 'the system' at underage and not near enough focus on producing footballers like the province was blessed with in the 90s and early 00s. The cult of the manager has taken over and a balance has to be found again. Great to see Canavans youngster score a great goal in u17 yesterday, hopefully when he comes through to senior 95% of his work will be done inside the opponents 45 like his father before him.

That's exactly it. It was terrible to watch a county like Tyrone sitting back and let Dublin literally walk around with the ball when they were 7/8 points up and nobody with any intention of coming out to put a tackle in. Theres no way that team would beat Dublin by going 15v15 I think but your system has to give you a chance.
Liam Kearns approach in Tipp for example is to drop one sweeper back but he attacks from deep quite often and scores a point or two in every game. The ball is moved quickly with kick passing used quite often. The likes of Tyrone, Donegal and Mognaghan all have good inside forwards who aren't being utilised at all. Armagh in their hay day were exceptional with a 2 man forward line of Clarke and McDonald with plenty of quick ball going into them. Tyrone need to evolve or the years will slip by

Mickey Harte should be left to make up his own mind on his future I read elsewhere on HS..how and why should that be?...the media pumped out aload of waffle all week prior to the game, Tyrone were excellently defense wise, best prepared team in years blah blah..if you have 13/14 players playing in defence it does not take rocket science to know that you are not going to be in a position to score up the other end of the field..and yet Tyrone (and Mickey Harte) persisted with this all day yesterday..how and where in the name of God did they expect to get scores from?? Dublin are a great side no doubt, yet the scored 2-17 against a 13 man defence you could say...maybe they would have got blown away if they went man to man with Dublin and maybe the might not have...but sure the second half warranted a try it and see approach...shocking stuff to look at yesterday....Mickey Harte might owe Tyrone football nothing but that doesn't make him irreplaceable etc...should be the same in every county...
