Replying To Tyronecelt:  "Now come on! I no league means Nahin when it comes to championship but the way Monaghan played against Kerry Mayo Roscommon Donegal and Dublin the team in that side of the draw u have to fancy a quarter final spot!! Might be the best thing happend to that team letting the media get into their heads!"
Monaghan have some very good players but the fear kicks in , or they're maybe overcoached at times. Six points down in second half yesterday and mc manus had to scream at the half forwards to push up on down kickout. They started well yesterday and went into coast mode and when under serious pressure looked lost on what to do. They played a good style of quick ball into two serious inside forwards in the league and looked to be able to step yet come summer drop off and run the ball with short handpassing . Not to take away from down , showed some real steel last ten mins , with some excellent performances around the park. Some absolute cracking long-range points and passes aswell. Its great to see the underdog odds wise to go and take the game to them and harrison gave wiley as tough a half as he ever probably will ever have.

Two things I couldn't help wondering during the game : 1 How did Down come so good so soon ? 2. Officials seem to be wanting Monaghan to win ou at least to draw.
Down gave new hope to all teams outside the top five, showing us all how it's done : take them on ! Run at them. Westmeath , take note !

Cavan played out of their skins, reality check they didn't. A lot under performed apart from Mackey

When you haven't much chance of winning anything and can't even stay in division one, your own happiness comes from slagging successful neighbours.

Great win and performance by Down last night. Some turnaround this year. Magnificent compared to where they have been at last 2 seasons.

And I agree - I thought the officials gave the Farney men some soft decisions also.

Whilst I don't think Down will beat Tyrone in a few weeks - it is hard to believe that it is 23years since Down last won the Ulster Championship and Anglo Celt Cup.

Well done Down and keep up the good work.

Super performance from Down & huge credit due to everyone involved. I will be the first to admit that I didn't see it coming.

I has been a few tough years for Down GAA folk & I can only imagine how they feel this morning.

Enjoy!!

Have to agree thought Down last night were superb - even with a ref who seemed to give everything to monaghan in second half - Monaghan are a good side and like the hurling the qualifiers now look very tough!

they bullied monaghan. hit them hard. they battered McManus and McCarron. For once Drew Wylie could not get the better of his man which is very unlike him. Down were a team possessed and looked supremely confident from the start. what a turnaround for a team that lost every game for nearly 2 years. but these players have shown their quality before for their clubs, they just hadn't shown it as a county team

Don't think anyone is sticking the boot into Monaghan for losing yesterday. Just banter. Anyway us Cavan folk will enjoy heading down to clones for our Ulster (minor) final. Don't worry, we'll get a key cut for ye for the back door to be neighbourly. Haha

Where is the monaghan poster now who was sticking the boot into Mayo a few weeks ago? Monaghan can't be taken seriously until they win a big game in Croke Park. I'm sorry. I actually like them as a team. What I would give to have McManus in Mayo

Agree credit where credit is due down did what we did against Donegal in 2013 ambush played like men possessed. Very hard to counter that. Hopefully they put it up to Tyrone as have always admired down football. They showed the way to a lot of northern teams in the early 90s. As for us vital we win our next match doesn't matter who it is against win and we might get back on the road lose and it really is curtains for this management and a lot of the Monaghan team.

Replying To cavanman47:  "But they kicked plenty of wides today as the did against Longford and Donegal last year.

They have a top top forward in McManus and a young guy with potential in McCarron but he has yet to show it in the big games. Apart from those 2 they have no finishers and kicking wides in double-figures is par for the course with them. The warning signs were very much there against Cavan, but Beggan kicked a 55m free into the wind and McAdam (think it was him) kicked one from an impossible angle. Those pot luck shots won't come off every week."
Beggan will do it all day everyday, there was a free just outside the 45 and he came up to take it only for mcmanus to tell him to go back and he put it a mile wide, dunno what was goin on there!

It's not the end of the road for us yet. Hopefully lads pick themselves up after being ambushed by a super down team yesterday evening. I think monaghan felt they were always going to haul down back but suddenly they were 7 points down. Team showed great character to take it back to 1. No one will want to meet us in qualifiers and it might be best thing to have happened us if we get to a quarter final. A good confidence boosting win in next match with whole team clicking would be just the tonic. Croke Park is a must this year and I think it's 2 weeks to we are out again. Hon the Farney.

Do you really think that or is it a hasty reaction to yesterday's result? I think O Rourke is doing a great job for ye. Probably would agree with getting rid of a few players though. Who would you think needs to walk?

As good as Down were last night. a lot of Monaghan's problems were due to their poor shooting. In the first 10 minutes, Monaghan could have been 3 or 4 points up, and it would have been much harder for Down to come back, especially being the underdog. Overall though a great performance by Down, and after a tough couple of years, they have a shot at an ulster title. On a side-note, can RTE get rid of Tommy Carr. He offers nothing in terms of insight into what's happening in the game, and sounds dis-interested most of the time.

You mustn't have watched the game, in both league and championship Cavan were at 110% and still couldn't beat us. That is reality. Down went at us 100% yesterday and won, that is the difference with a quality team.
