Down v Monaghan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Heading for Dublin soon and making the day out of it. All the best to the Down team and management today. We are very proud of your efforts so far this year and
if we can make the quarter final we will
most definitely have deserved it. Monaghan are a quality side and to defeat them once was tough enough. To beat them twice the same season would be remarkable. We have beaten Monaghan
so hope this gives the players belief and
we can do it again. An Dun abu.

Should be a good one this. Think Down are quite an underrated side, have turned things around big time during this season

Kevin McKernan is named at half forward
today. The diagonal ball worked well into
Harrison the last day against Monaghan
but if Monaghan close Harrison down
better today hopefully the Johnstons can
provide some scores. O'Hanlon and
Mooney have been playing well this
Summer, hopefully they will play well
again today.

Hard game to call, can Monaghan find their form or will Down recover from their Ulster final defeat? I think Down are a team that are going places in the next few years but its always hard to recover from a defeat in the Ulster final so I give a reluctant nod to Monaghan.

Tight enough first half, some nice points scored. I don't think there will be too much in it in the second half too, hard one to call.

Harrison is class, great first half and season so far for him. No Monaghan forward has scored from play yet either, gona be some second half.

That was a shocking game of football. Christ Down were like rabbits in the headlights. Dreadful.

Strange comment.
If it had of been 10-9 it would of been dour Ulster football.
1-24 to 1-16. Goal chances. Great scores.
Some people just love complaining.

Eh no. Basing my comment on what was on show. Just because there was a decent amount of scores doesn't make it a good game.

Based on that performance how good was the Dublin win? Armagh would be 4 or 5th Ulster ?

I think the standings in Ulster fluctuate though more so than in any other province. Like, on any given day you would back Monaghan, Armagh and Down to be close to each other and maybe beat each other.

Armagh were excellent tonight and were fully worth their win. Issue is we really didn't have any decent games in the build up to this. We played a shocking Laois team and really poor Meath team and then had to play the dubs.

Great game and well done Monaghan on a very impressive second half performance. 3 teams out of 4 from Ulster on that side of the draw now, coupled with 3 out of 4 from Connacht on the other side, it doesn't say much for Leinster and Munster outside of the Dubs and Kerry.

Lads who was the co-commentator on this match on Sky Sports?

Monaghan have come good and they have a game in Croker under their belts, they'll make a tough opponent for either ourselves or Tyrone and it's not beyond them to scalp somebody.
