John McKeever has emerged as a contender for the Antrim football manager's post.

The former Antrim defender and current Coalisland boss is believed to be among the nominees for the job, which is still occupied by joint-managers Frank Fitzsimons and Gearoid Adams. McKeever, who led Fr Rocks, Cookstown to an All-Ireland club intermediate title in 2013, could have ex-Derry star Conleith Gilligan as a selector if he lands the job. The Ballinderry clubman is currently assisting him in Coalisland, who reached the Tyrone SFC final last year.

Speaking to the Irish News, Antrim defender Declan Lynch called on the county board to stick with the outgoing management.

"Personally, I'd like to see Frank and Gearoid stay on and I think that would be the same for the rest of the squad, but there needs to be a bigger investment in terms of resources being made available, whether that's the county board or outside that," he said.
