Fermanagh manager Pete McGrath has stressed that morale victories are no good to them anymore.

Another hard luck story blotted Fermanagh's copy book last Sunday when they had chances to defeat Monaghan in the opening round of the McKenna Cup, but failed to take them.

McGrath was a frustrated figure after the game and he stressed to the Fermanagh Herald that it was a game they should have won.

"We had enough of the play and enough chances to win the game and we didn't and that has to be a source of annoyance, as it would be in any game that you lose like that," blasted McGrath.

"There was a period in the first half where we had them on the ropes completely and we were missing chances. It was a draw with about 32 minutes played and they fired over three points, two of which where from mistakes on our part.

"Until we eradicate those sorts of mistakes it'll always be a hard luck story. That's how it was on Sunday, somewhere down the road in the league, somewhere in the championship and you can only take that sort of thing for so long.

"We gave away a sucker goal at the start of the game and that goal was between the teams for so long. But with the amount of play and chances we had in the second half, if you don't take chances like those you don't win matches, particularly against a team like Monaghan who are capable of going down the field and slipping the ball over the bar almost effortlessly."
