Kevin Morris
The late Kevin Morris, Menapian Way, Enniskillen, who died at the age of 62 on the 18th January last, was a bricklayer by trade, manager of a bookmaker's office and was latterly retired due to ill health.
He was born on 4th January, 1944, in Enniskillen, the fourth child in a family of ten children of Thomas Morris and his wife Mary (nee Jones).
Educated at Abbey Street School and St. Michael's College, Enniskillen, he trained as a bricklayer and worked in the trade for over twenty years.
He was a meticulous man about 'doing the job right'. He was highly skilled and helped build a number of landmarks throughout Fermanagh and indeed further afield. These included the Erne Hospital, Enniskillen Technical College, Garrison Chapel, Roslea School and many houses.
He was, however, most proud of his own house which he built as a family home.
In 1967, he married Liz (nee Burns) and they had five children. They initially lived at Mill Street for twelve years before moving to Menapian Way, into the house that he had built.
In 1983, Kevin's career took another direction as he began work in Bradley's Bookmakers. He stayed there for the next seventeen years, managing the Lisnaskea and Market Street offices at different times.
Throughout his life, Kevin was an enthusiastic member of the GAA, serving both club and county with distinction. He represented Fermanagh at both minor and senior levels. However, his fanaticism was Enniskillen Gaels, for whom he gave a lifetime of service, both as a player and an officer.
Ever the keen sportsman, Kevin also enjoyed swimming, basket-ball and boating. It was his skill as a swimmer, his fearless nature and his readiness to help those in need that led to an award for bravery from the Royal Humane Society. He had gone to the rescue of a youth in imminent danger of drowning in Lough Erne, between Holly Island and Drumsa, Co. fermanagh and whose life he gallantly assisted to save.
Kevin also enjoyed music and took part in various musicals over the years. He was a member of St. Michael's Senior Choir and loved to sing.
He was a kind, generous and gentle man and Kevin's good nature was apparent to all who met him. His loyalty and honesty were renowned.
A great socialiser, Kevin liked nothing more than to be amongst friends and revelled in the role of 'host'. He was an astute card player and was also known to study 'the form'.
Superseding all of this and paramount in his life was his dedication to his family. Everything he did, he did for them. He guided them, taught them, loved them and was proud of all that they collectively achieved.
Kevin was pre-deceased by his father, Thomas and mother, Mary and two brothers, Tom and Louis.
He is survived by his wife, Liz, daughter, colette, sons, Barry, Mark, Dermot and Kevin, daughter-in-law Louise and grand-daughter, Emily. He is also survived by his three sisters Mary, Ethna and Agnes, his four brothers, John, Gabriel, Jude and James and the wider family circle.
The largely attended funeral Mass was celebrated in St. michael's Church, Enniskillen, by Fr Noel McGahan, CC.
The funeral undertaker was Peter Carty and the burial took place in Breandrum.
