The Late Sean Corrigan
A popular Belnaleck farmer and father of five young children died instantly in a tragic tractor accident as he helped out on a neighbouring farm.
Sean Corrigan (49), from Derryinch, Belnaleck suffered fatal crush injuries as he started the tractor in a shed at Clonatrig on the farm of a neighbour. He is immediately survived by his wife, Mary, a native of Trillick and their five children - Claire, an architectural student at Queen's, Catherine, a student at Mount Lourdes Grammar School, Patrick, a pupil at St Aidan's High School, Derrylin, Peter, a pupil at St Mary's PS, Killesher and 19-month old Dylan.
News of the tragedy evoked widespread shock and genuine sadness. The deceased was well-known throughout the county. He had been a driver for the Sean Quinn Group for 21 years before moving to other employment.
He was a former playing member and chairman with Belnaleck GFC and continued to take a keen interest in the club as well as in the fortunes of Fermanagh. He was also involved in local community development and diverted his card-playing skills to raising funds for the local community centre.
He had an easy-going nature and related easily with young people. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father and an obliging neighbour.
There was an impressive turn-out when his remains were brought to his late home on Thursday night and afterwards until their final removal to St Mary's Church, Arney on Saturday morning for the con-celebrated funeral Mass.
The principle celebrant, Fr John Finnegan, the parish priest of Cleenish was assisted by Fr Fintan McKiernan, P.P. and Canon Liam Gaffney, PE, Derrylin. The burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
In addition to his wife and children, Mr Corrigan is survived by his sister, Mary (Bernard) Monaghan, from Macken, by his mother-in-law, Mena McCarney, Trillick and by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the McCarney family: Eamon, Rita, Kieran, Teresa, Mark, Joe, Malachy and Briedge.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Annie Corrigan.
