Carron, Seamus

The death occured at his residence on Wednesday of last week, after a long illness of Mr Seamus Carron, 3 Tobermore Park, Enniskillen. Aged 57, he was a native of Macken, Enniskillen and was on the teaching staff of St Aidan's secondary school in Derrylin for many years.

He received his early education at Drumbrochas Primary School and St Michael's College, Enniskillen before progressing to St Joseph's Training College in Belfast, where he qualified as a teacher, specialising in woodwork, metalwork and technical drawing. His first teaching position was in St Josephs, Enniskillen before taking up a similar post in St Aidan's in Derrylin where he remained for 30 years. A fine teacher he was held in high regard by his colleagues in St Aidan's and by the many pupils whom he taught over those three decades.
Seamus had many interests particularly at sporting level. He was a member of St Michael's Enniskillen Mac-Rory Cup team and played club football with Belnaleck GFC. He had a passionate interest in hurling and played with Fermanagh county team in the 1980s at centre half back.

He was one of a number of keen hurlers who wore the green jersey in the county during those years and gave the game a definite boost in the Erne county at that time. His other sporting activities included basketball and tennis which he played right up to the onset of his illness four years ago.
H e is survived by his wife, Marie, sons, Paul, Donal and Declan; daughters, Grainne and Roisin; brothers, Francie, John, Tom and Owen and his sister, Mrs Kathleen Maguire. He was prececeased by his son, Michael.
The funeral took place on Saturday last following concelebrated mass in St Michael's Church, Enniskillen with interment in Breandrum cemetery. Guards of honour included those provided by the students of St Aidan's secondary school, Fermanagh hurlers and local football teams.
