Newcomers impress Gallagher

New Derry manager Rory Gallagher.

Fermanagh manager Rory Gallagher admits that he was impressed by some of the displays in their opening match in the Dr McKenna Cup.

The Erne County played out a draw with UUJ under the new rules, and Gallagher feels that the newcomers in the side adapted well to the conditions.

“I thought Johnny Cassidy did well, Kevin McDonnell did well, Ultan Kelm did very well marking Paddy Durcan and I thought Darragh McGurn did very well,” Gallagher told the Fermanagh Herald.

“Those younger lads who’ve come in with a bit more conditioning and are in good shape for the time of year. As a first start for a lot of young fellas it was a big plus.

“It’s difficult because you’re under rules with not a lot of training done. An experiment is a small number of games. At the minute we’re faced into ten games out of a guaranteed 12 games. That’s more than an experiment.”
