As Brexit looms, several well-known GAA personalities in Ulster have put their names to an open letter to An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar calling for their rights to be protected.

The letter, which is published in The Irish News today, calls on the Irish government to safeguard EU rights for all Irish citizens north and south of the border post-Brexit.

Among the 1,000 signatories are Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney, new Down boss Paddy Tally, ex-Down All-Ireland winner Ross Carr, former Armagh All-Ireland winning manager Joe Kernan, Tyrone great Peter Canavan, former Derry corner back Tony Scullion and current players Padraig Hampsey (Tyrone) and Darren Hughes (Monaghan).

The letter reads: "A very real potential partition could be reinformed and our country and our people further divided. This is a source of grave concern to us all."
