A proposed eight-week ban wound rule Ryan McCluskey out of Sunday week's Ulster SFC final but Fermanagh intend to appeal.

McCluskey - the country's longest-serving intercounty player - was hit with the proposed sanction in the aftermath of the Ernemen's superb semi-final defeat of Monaghan.

Although he was listed as part of Fermanagh's 26-man match-day squad, the 37-year-old was sent to the stand by referee Conor Lane towards the end of the first half in his capacity as a backroom team member when he squirted water at Drew Wylie as he ran onto the field of play donning a Maor Uisce bib.

"It was in the heat of the moment and I'm not sure if he did (realise I was a player). I actually was listed as a player that day so the county board are currently looking into that issue," he told The Irish Sun.

"It's not ideal but you have to get on with it. It is a bit cloudy but it's out of my hands."
