i think he is the best ever.the way he can time his runs is brilliant, his close control, the way he passes the ball into the net,his determination, honesty and humility.his stats tell it all.xavi is also a great player but messi has performed even when he hasnt been in the team.hes a different type of player but messi is an out and out match winner.

Yes Derryledd I understand that, but the fact is it doesnt mean a whole lot. Maybe messi is the type who needs to feel loved, maybe he had had a few average games, the truth is I dont know the inner working of how PG goes about his job, but the fact is he plays xavi in a far more influential role in his team. Talk is cheap as they say

My new very-best-friend, Sligorob, would never forgive me if I didn't push Johnny Brooks' case. A Sligo legend - which is more than can be said for Messi. Is David Pugh still playing?

I think what sets him apart from nearly all other players is how ridiculously easy he makes the game look. How many of his goals have come from driving inside from the right and slotting the ball home with his left peg? You can imagine opposition managers and defenders knowing what he's going to do, and yet they are powerless to prevent the almost inevitable outcome.

At 24 I believe his crowning glory will be if/when he wins a World Cup. I'd suggest that if he wins it in 2014 in Brazil that he may as well take up golf or snooker. Cos he'll have mastered this football craic...

Some interesting stuff on that documentary, the version of events is a little suspect at times though, which is a shame because it is actually quite a good story on its own, there was no need to try to make it into a bit of a fairytale, I dont know why the guys doing these documentaries always do that.

Harsh Manc. Nearly did have an assist tonight. Ronaldo didn't set the world on fire last night either

Why harsh, Lionel gets an assist in my book. Whats harsh about it. He lost the ball and Drogba scores simple. Why bring Ronni into it?

Its harsh revelling in one mans misfortune. He very nearly did have an assist in the first half for Barcelona though. Considering that you spent the whole of this thread talking about how great ronaldo is I shall be highlighting his poor performance in last nights game.

It's clear now that Messi struggles against the technically superior English sides.
