Dublin hurling star David Treacy has revealed that, contrary to public opinion, 'the atmosphere was good' in the dressing room during Ger Cunningham's time as manager.

There were a number of high profile defections from the metropolitans' set-up in recent years but, speaking on RTE's Morning Ireland this morning after the All-Ireland SHC semi-final draw, the Cuala sharpshooter paid tribute to the Cork native who announced his resignation on Saturday.

"Ger was the best of gentlemen on and off the pitch and I personally wanted to take this opportunity to thank him for what he has done.

"I suppose it's not great looking from the outside in.

"But speaking from the players' dressing room, the atmosphere was good. And he hasn't left it in (the state) people are saying he has.

"Personally I'd like to thank him for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future."
