Former Tipperary hurler Ryan O'Dwyer points to the steely edge that Tipperary have added to their game this year.

Padraic Maher's huge shoulder on Joe Canning during the Premier County's semi-final win over Galway encapsulated the uncompromising approach that the Munster champions will also carry into Sunday's All-Ireland final against Kilkenny:

"I think Tipp have a bit of steel to them this year," Dublin ace O'Dwyer told The Irish Daily Mirror." For as long as I can remember Tipp have had brilliant hurlers, but sometimes lacking a bit of steel.

"This year, there's a different type of mentality, like 'I'm a good hurler, but I'll still throw my head in wherever it matters'.

"There's a few young lads that want to do the right things and want to hurl for Tipp and do whatever it takes to win. I think Mick Ryan as well can take a lot of credit for that.

"If you can remember Mick Ryan when he was hurling, let's just say he took no prisoners. I think that mentality is being bought into in Tipp and it's the same with Denis Leamy being involved as well. The professional attitude that he brings will add to it and when he was playing rugby he was a phenomenal athlete with a phenomenal attitude."
