Well done to our latest League Champions, as the 15B hurling team were crowned league winners, well done to all involved. A great win also for the U16 footballers who now progress to the quarter final of the ‘A’ Championship. Disappointment for our Senior Camogie team who lost away to a very strong St. Vincent’s in the Championship semi-final, a much better result for the Junior 4 Camogie team who have been impressive already year and are now through to the Championship FINAL, the Inter Camogie team also won and have now qualified for the Championship semi-final. The U15 camogie team also had a big win in the Championship semi-final and are through to the Final. In Ladies football the 16B team had a great win in the Championship semi-final, also a big win for the 15A team in Championship semi-final, match reports below. Our Jnr B footballers crashed out of Championship away to Skerries, while the Jnr A quarter final feel victim to the weather and had been re-fixed for THIS Sunday 20th away to St Marys S at 11am. Earlier in the week the Jnr B hurlers capped off a great win by securing league promotion with a good win vs Cuala. Lots of big games coming up, support welcome and appreciated:

 

This weekend sees, our Jnr 4 Camogie team in Championship Final vs Na Gaeil Oga, 14 and 15A play Ballyboden and the 16A are confirmed to play Castleknock at 11am in Naomh Mearnog. Inter play Championship s/final Sunday 12:30pm away to CBC/Portobello. 14B Championship s/final away to CBC.

 

Minor A and B footballers Championship Qtr Final action, A away to Castleknock at 11am , B away to St. Brigids 11am also.

John Mills (RIP)

All of us at Lucan Sarsfields, of course were deeply sorry to hear the news of the passing of John Mills Snr last week. John served on the Executive in the club, gave lots of hours to the club, was a big fundraiser, selling lotto tickets, and a huge force behind events like the GolfClassic. John of course will be fondly remembered, always on the sidelines at matches, sometimes even supposed to be the linesman!, and if he wasn’t he was willing to give an opinion. John will not be just missed by ourselves in Lucan Sarsfields but of course right across theCommunity..and I think his long time friend and neighbour, Pat Glover, has said it best …”a true friend and a wonderful neighbour”.

The Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club 25 Card Drive resumes on Friday 18th October 2019 and will continue to May 2020. Time: 8.00pm Sharp 1st Prize: €50, 2nd Prize if 3 or more tables Entry: €5 per person Records will be kept of the number of games won by all players (in the 12 games played at each table) over the season. Entry fees that exceed the prize money each night will be accumulated as prizes for the top players over the full season. Everyone is welcome - from beginners to those who played years ago and would like to resume playing so please spread the word! Club membership is NOT a requirement. Juvenile Camogie Report
Our U8 girls played Camogie at home to Naomh Jude, on a very wet Sunday morning. The rain didn't effect the girls attitude or play, and we managed to have four teams, playing eight a side. This was the girls last Camogie game for this year, and to see how much they have improved and bonded as a group in such a short time is amazing. The Camogie mentors are so proud of this young group and we know the future is bright for them all. Once again we would like to show our appreciation for the four young people from Lucan Sarsfields who referred our matches, as always they are great with all these young girls, taking time to talk to them, show them when mistakes are being made and encourage them along the way. Our U8 girls are learning so much from these young referees.

Match Report:

Lucan began their last group game needing a win to advance to the knock-out stage. Erins Isle got off to a flying start and took a 7-point lead after the opening 10 minutes. Lucan began to slowly claw back their lead and outscored Erins Isle 1-8 to 1-1 in the last 15 minutes to go in level at half time.

The second half began, and this time Lucan took the initiative, taking some fine scores to build up a 7-point lead midway through the half. We could not build on this to close out the game and gradually Erins Isle began eating into our lead to leave it a 1-point game entering the final minutes. However, Lucan showed great resolve to hold on for a deserved win.It means progression to the quarter-finals. Delighted for this squad of players and a big thanks to the support from their families.

Ladies Football Report
A busy weekend for Ladies Football, On Saturday the U13As progressed to a cup final against ClannaGael Fontenoy following their 1-8 to 1-4 home win over Castleknock, The final will take place on 26 October.

 

Earlier on Saturday, U15A won well in extra time, beating St Brigids 3-22 to 3-13 to set up a Division 1 final against Ballyboden, again on 26 Occtober.

 

At the same time, U15B won well against Ballyboden (10-8 to 2-4) in the Division 4 Shield semi and will now meet St Margarets in the final on 26 October.

 

Also on Saturday, Minor B had a 5-14 to 3-8 win over Templeogue, and will play the Division 5 Shield final against Fingallions, also on 26 October.

 

On Sunday, both U14 teams were at home to Fingallians in Shield Semis, the A's losing 2-4 to 11-10 and the B's winning 6-8 to 0-2. 14B now play St Monicas in the final on 27 October.

 

U16B outplayed Ballyboden 2-11 to 2-03 at home and will now meet either Craobh Chiaran or ODwyers in Division 6 Championship final, date tbc.

 

And the only away team of the weekend, saw U16A beat St Vincents 3-15 to 1-12 in the Division 1B Group stages. No date yet for the shield semifinal as matches still to be played in Group 1A.

U16 Division 6 Championship Semi Final

Lucan Sarsfields 2-11, 2-03 Ballyboden St Enda

Div6 semi final was a hard fought battle which the Lucan girls won with a great performance and fight for every ball attitude. Lucan was coming into the game as group winners after 3 straight wins in the group stages and showed the same form in the semi. Roll on the div6 champingship final in two weeks time. Grma.

U13 Division 7 Cup Semi Final

Lucan Sarsfields 0-0, 3-10 St Brigids

A tough game against a very well drilled opposition with 3 very strong players that dominated the game. Our girls were very disappointed with the result, but fought to the end, we just couldn't finish out the scores. Everyone got a run out though and contributed.

 

U13 Division 2 Cup Semi Final

Lucan Sarsfields 1-8, 1-4 Castleknock

Game conditions were great, warm and windless. Sarsfields started game very strongly and totally dominated first 15 minutes.No scores registered during this period as Lucan hit crossbars , posts and had numerous near misses. Castleknock to their credit fought hard and had a breakaway attack to get first score of game and go point up. Thereafter Lucan assumed control and went in up at the break 1-2 to 0-2 thanks to a brilliant solo goal from Leah O'Byrne. Second half continued in same vein with Sarsfields putting a little distance between themselves and Castleknock, picking off some nice points to lead 1-7 to 0-4 with 5 minutes left. The Castleknock girls, who fought hard and never gave up scored a opportunistic goal to set up a grand stand finish. The Lucan girls held firm in the face of some sustained attacks with some top class defending and got the final point to put the game out of reach of a gallant Castleknock team and win 1-8 to 1-4. Castleknock mentor was very gracious in defeat saying that "his team couldn’t cope with us“ and wished us well in final. Scorers for Lucan on day were Leah O'Byrne 1-3, Leah Duffy 0-3, Tara Curran 0-1, Siobhan Birnie 0-1.

 

Adult Hurling Report
Another good week for our hurlers with two significant wins from the two games played. The Junior B’s followed up their championship winning exploits last weekend with a midweek league promotion playoff win over Cuala  (4-12 to 2-9) and will now play Division 7 hurling next year. The Minor B’s had a great extra time championship quarterfinal win over St Vincent’s, and progress to the semi’s. Match report below.

MHC ‘C’ QF: Lucan Sarsfields 2-16  St Vincent’s 2-14.

Lucan came through after extra-time to progress to the championship semi-finals. Despite being played in difficult conditions both teams provided great entertainment and drama on a wet Sunday morning at the 12th Lock.  Lucan started very well and lead 1-3 to no score after 10 minutes. The goal came from Charlie Casey after 3 pointed frees from Liam O’Connor.  Vincent’s hard started with an extra man back but soon abandoned that and quickly benefitted from the change as they fought their way back into the game with a goal in the 15th minute. Vincent’s were marginally the better team for the rest of the half and lead at half time 1-7 to 1-6. Oisin Twamley provided Lucan’s first point from play and O’Connor had added 2 more frees. The opening exchanges of the second half were scrappy though well contested and it was 10 minutes before a score came, when another Twamley point had the game level. But Vincent’s then took control and added the next 4 scores to lead by 4 points into the final 10 minutes.  Twamley cut through for a good point to reduce the deficit to 3 in the 52nd minute, and then Lucan got the breakthrough they needed when O’Connor fired home a goal from a free in the 54th minute.  Twamley put Lucan ahead a minute later and further scores from O’Connor (f) and Sean Balfe looked to have settled the issue. But Vincent’s weren’t done yet and they engineered a good goal in the 60th minute to level at 2-11 each and take the game to extra-time. Both teams managed 2 points in the first period of extra time, but Vincent’s edged ahead in the second period and lead by 1 with just 4 minutes left. However Lucan refused to be beaten and two great long range frees from O’Connor put them ahead as the 10 minutes elapsed. Vincent’s threatened again but the Lucan defence held firm and then a score from Hugh Cuffe gave Lucan the final say and a great two point victory. Ciaran O’Brien and Rob Moloney were very effective in the central positions of a strong Lucan defence, Cathal Shanahan was very busy in mid-field while Oisin Twamley was most prominent in the forward line in which Liam O’Connor was deadly accurate from frees, scoring a phenomenal 1-10. Lucan now progress to the semi-final in two weeks time.
