Castleknock club notes

July 15, 2019

July 9 – The OneGoodClub Healthy Eating Workshop (Smoothie Making and Blind Fruit Tasting) held in the Clubhouse Foyer proves a huge success. Lorraine Hagerty and Barbara O’Neill provided a great spread of healthy foods and Dave Kavanagh from Jigsaw Dublin 15 gave a short talk. The 5-week Mental Health and Wellbeing Pilot Programme is now over. Many thanks who everyone who participated.

A Junior ‘C’ Hurling Championship draw 4-11 2-17 against Naomh Olaf means Castleknock win their Group and are now guaranteed a Home Quarter-Final likely to be on September 8th. Nice to see the Dublin U-16 Camogie squad training in Somerton after their great win over Clare.

July 10 – Our Senior hurlers were outgunned by Naomh Barróg (0-16 1-20) in the Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship in Somerton although it was much closer than the 7-point margin suggests. Another good win for the Minor Footballers in MFL1 beating Clontarf 2-12 0-15 while our MFL5 team fought out an exciting draw with St. Catherine’s (Erin go Bragh/Westmanstown) 3-13 4-10.

July 11 – Our Junior ‘F’ Hurlers receive a Championship walk-over from O’Dwyers.

July 12 – MFL5 side lose to Naomh Barróg 1-12 6-11.

July 13 – The final touches are put to the Clubhouse walls and floors. Huge thanks to Fergus Kiernan and Jason O’Neill (and the rest of their volunteer team) for all their work over the last few months. Congrats to Hannah Bourke, representing Dublin, on winning the Leinster Camogie U-16 Poc Fada Competition on the slopes of the Sugar Loaf.

July 14 – Great win for MHL1 team 8-21 4-18 in high-scoring game against Oliver Plunketts but no joy for the U-15 Hurling League Div.1 team beaten 3-14 1-14 by Naomh Barróg.

Upcoming: The next big underage competition is the Club’s internal All-Ireland League Nights (Aug. 5-11). It promises to be another great event with six tournaments catering for girls and boys U-7/U-12. See website or contact Neil Devlin 086-1004301 for further information.

Date for the diary – the day we’ve all been waiting for - the Official Opening of our new Clubhouse will take place on Saturday, September 7th as part of our Annual Family Fun Day.

The Club extends its sincere sympathy to Denis Lally on the death of his brother Joe and to our GPO Maria Bergin on the death of her grandaunt.
