Castleknock club notes

June 12, 2019

June 4 – Castleknock invited to represent Leinster in the Ladies Gaelic Football Association’s Pilot Programme promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in conjunction with Lidl and Jigsaw.

June 5 – Great displays from Evan McSherry at wing-half-back and forward Matthew Lynam (1-1) as Dublin Clarke overcome Offaly (1-19 1-15) in the Celtic Challenge Hurling competition.

June 6 – Important win for the AFL4 footballers keeping up their top of the table challenge by beating St. Finians Swords 3-10 1-10.

June 8 – The Senior Footballers remain in second place in the AFL2 after a solid 3-13 2-9 win over Round Towers, Clondalkin – Ger McDermottroe scored 1-7.

June 9 – Another fabulous Feile an nGael victory this time for our Div. 3 Hurlers who won the All-Ireland U-14 title in Cork beating their hosts Glen Rovers 1-12 0-3 in the final in Ballincollig. Castleknock had been leading by 7 points when the referee blew prematurely for time but then restarted the match to play out the remaining 5 minutes. Castleknock had earlier beaten Bruff from Limerick 1-4 0-4 in the semi-final and Mount Leinster Rovers in the Quarter-Final in Killeagh 0-5 0-3. In the Group Stages the Castleknock lads drew their first two games against Watergrasshill and Cois Fharraige before easing past Glen Rovers (2-6 2-4) the team they met again in the Final. All in all a memorable weekend even if recording two wins over their wonderful hosts wasn’t really part of the script.

Also on Sunday the Calum Farrell Memorial Cup brought an incredible crowd to Somerton – many thanks to the players, mentors and families of players from Tyrrelstown, St. Peregrines, Erin Go Bragh, St. Brigid’s and St. Oliver Plunkett’s who participated in the U-8’s Football Blitz and stayed on to make it a day to remember. Well done to the organisers of this hugely successful event.

The AFL9 team beat St. Finian’s, Swords 3-18 2-12 to maintain their league challenge. Congrats also to Ciaran Kilkenny on helping Dublin footballers reach yet another Leinster Final.
