It is with sincere regret we record the death of Mr Michael Joseph (Joe) Burns, of 97 Carginagh Road, Kilkeel. Aged 88 and a retired road worker and manhole cover maker, he passed away at Daisy Hill Hospital on 22 August. A single man, Mr Burns is survived by his brothers Paddy (97 Carginagh Road) and Jim (174 Carginagh Road) and sister Margaret (97 Carginagh Road). He was a member of the Ballymartin senior Gaelic Football team in 1955 when they won the Co Down Club Champions Cup. Joe was a team player in the 1940s and 1950s , in acknowledgement of which a guard of honour was organised by the club at the Funeral Mass, held on 25 August at At Joseph's Church, Ballymartin.
