Glavin, Colum

January 31, 2007
The late Colum Glavin The Carryduff club deeply regrets the sudden death of their founder member, trustee and friend Colum Glavin. An honourary life member, Colum was heavily involved with Carryduff GAC since day one and served on the initial committee. He was also the club's first team manager, a position he held from 1973-1975 and again in 1978. During that time Carryduff won the East Down Junior League and the East Down League Shield and were twice runners-up in the Down Junior Championship Colum was chairman of the club in 1976 and vice-president in 1983. Colum played his early club football with Ballykinlar, Annsborough and Dundrum and was also a committee member of Dundrum. He won County Junior Championship medals with Annsborough and Dundrum and represented Down at Junior and Senior level between 1943 and 1949. His father was a former East Down chairman and club chairman of Dundrum until his death in 1960. With such a strong GAA tradition in his family, it was inevitable that Colum became involved in activities at all levels and served as a committee member on the East Down Board for a spell. Sympathy is extended to his wife Ann, daughters Bronagh and Shauna, and sons Liam and Daniel, both former players in the club. Colum was one of nature's true gentlemen and a lifelong member of the GAA whose wise counsel will be sadly missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Courtesy of the Mourne Observer 31 January 2007
