McGinn, Sean

January 28, 2005
The Late Sean McGinn It was with much shock and deep sadness that the family and many friends of Sean McGinn learned of his sudden and untimely death on Christmas Day. He was just 19. Predeceased by his father Joey, who died in March 2004, he is survived by his mummy Irene and sisters Paula and Roseleen. Sean was born in Castlewellan and attended St Malachy's Primary and St Malachy's High Schools. He was training to be a plasterer and was in his final year at Newry Institute. He took great pride in his work and everything he did. Sean loved sport and played Gaelic football for Castlewellan GAC. He also played for Castlewellan Town FC and managed its Under 12 team. Many of his friends play for the club's First and Second elevens, which played in cup finals over the Christmas period. A minute's silence was observed in his memory prior to both cup finals and all the players wore black armbands and returned to the house during the wake. He tried not to miss any matches at Lansdowne Road, Dublin, and travelled down with his uncle Felix and friends to watch Ireland play. He made many friends in Dublin and anywhere he went. His mates always made sure he was last in the queue for the Chippy! He also was a member of the Mulholland Bar's pool team. Sean will be sadly missed by his close family and friends and indeed by many circles in the town of Castlewellan. Requiem Mass was held on 28 December in the Church of the Immaculate Conception Aughlisnafin, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Fr Sean Cahill and Canon Magee officiated.
