McKay, Pat

December 13, 2004
On Friday 3 September another great sportsman in the person of Pat McKay was laid to rest in Rathfriland Cemetery. He was 80. Pat, who down the years earned his living by driving buses, also played football, soccer and gaelic. This included for the Down County team and Barmeen Club. Pat was a light that shone in the darkness of this world, and no doubt his light will shine on in the Heavenly home. His sudden departure has left a void in the lives of his family and friends that they will a find very difficult to come to terms with. The writer of this tribute played football against Barnmeen on a number of occasions and found Pat to be a great personality both on the park and off it. He was a man of impeccable character, jovial, witty and a pleasure to know. The funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Poland while the funeral arrangements were carried out by Steven Fitzpatrick. I extend my sympathy to Pat's wife Patricia, also daughters Leona, Maureen, Katy and Amanda; son PJ; sister Philomena; grandchildren and great grandchildren and the entire family circle. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam uasal. (Contributed by John H Magennis, Annaclone) Courtesy of the Mourne Observer, September 2004.
