Down U14 Ladies County Team

Down U14s Defeated by Armagh

The Down U14s were defeated by a much stronger Armagh side in their latest Ulster fixture played in Lurgan on Saturday 15th April. In the first half, the sides traded scores with Armagh getting an early goal. The Down girls created some great points scored by Grace Cunningaham, Amy McClelland and Fiona Dolan and were still in contention at half time after Armagh had missed several opportunities. Down had the perfect start to the 2nd half with a well worked goal scored by Grace Cunningham to reduce the gap but from this point on Armagh dominated the game with some excellent scores to finish as worthy winners. The girls will play Cavan this Saturday 22nd April at 1.00pm in the 3G Kingspan Breffni park. The Bus arrangements are as follows: Castlewellan Lower Square 9.45am, Hilltown Square 10.05am, Mayobridge Pharmacy 10.15am, Mourne County Hotel Newry 10.30am.

Cavan are providing refreshments for both teams after the match and we expect to leave Cavan on the return journey at 3.00pm.

Down U13 Ladies County Development Team

Down U13 girls travelled to Brookeborough to take on Fermanagh in the third round of the Ulster Development league. The girls were determined to get off to a good start and that they did, opening an early lead after 10 minutes with some wonderfully taken goals and points. The Mourne girls pushed on from there and by half-time had built up a sizeable lead. In the second half against the breeze, the girls stuck to their task and pulled off some fine scores to run out comfortable winners. In the second game the girls also combined well and held out for a victory, with the football played by the Red and Black of a similar style to the first game. The most pleasing aspect of the display was the way they all combined as a team, holding onto possession, playing off the shoulder whilst running at Fermanagh and never giving the ball away easily. The work rate of the Down girls was a credit to them all. Well done girls. Thanks to Fermanagh for their hospitality and hot meal for the all the girls after the game. Next up is league leaders Antrim which is an away game on Sunday 23rd April.

U14 UPDATE

The U14 team played two highly competitive games against the Down U13 Squad (Details above) and against a strong Carryduff u15/u16 team. The performances from all the girls were excellent and attention now turns to the Ulster Blitz in Cookstown next weekend. Many thanks to Carryduff for providing the opposition and to Rowan Lyons for refereeing the game
