Brilliant win for the Eire Og U-12s this morning against Glenn. All the Eire Ogs played their hearts out, were first to every ball and took their scores well. Final score Eire Og 4-9 Glenn 0-5. Well done boys and girls!

Training continues on a Thursday evening at the Quarter Road pitch from 6.30 until 7.30. Next game is an away fixture against Atticall on Sunday morning at 11am.

On Friday night it wasn't just the hills that were alive with the sound of music but our Clubrooms as we had our night of Celebration of Scór to acclaim our All Ireland Champion Solo singer  Naimh McDowell.  We were honoured to have Eilish McAtee, Ulster Scór Committeee Chairperson and her sister Carmel, Ulster Secretary and CEO, Brian McEvoy, Ulster Scór Secretary  Danny McLarnon, County Chairman Sean Rooney and his wife Mairead, County Secretary Sean Óg McAteer, Cultural Officer William James Smith, County Scór Secretary Paula Magee , her husband Peter and family and our Parish Priest  Rev. Father ean Gilmore as our speciallly invited guests.  Club Chairman Gary McGreevy  welcomed them all to our night of celebration and stated how glad he was to see Club Stalwart Jim Cunningham in attendance as well after his recent spell in hospital. Each of our guest speakers congratulated Niamh on her All Ireland success andemphasised the importance of Scór as a means of promoting our culture, language , music , song and dance.  They pointed out the our Games take pride of place in Cumann LuthCleas Gael but that Scór is of equal value as a way for those less athletically minded to hone their skills and boost their coinfidence through practice and performance in Scór  Indeed it was pointed out that our County has more success in Scór than on the field of play with an All Ireland Senior title going to Saul  Ballad Group, An All Ireland Scór na nÓg  title for Mayobridge's Gavin  Gribben last year  and  an Ulster title for Mayobridge Ballad Group and and All Ireland Solo Singing title for Niamh McDowell from Glasdrumman this year. William and Paula look out you may be transferred!!!!!!!.  All present were then  treed to a lovley supper provided by our Club members and  perpared by Aileen Smith, Jen McKAy and Anne Maire Smith to whom we express our deepest gratuitude for all your hard work.

We then moved on to the stage where Fear an Tí for the evening Club Cultural Officer Tony Bannon welcomed our County . Provincial and  All Irealnd winner Niamh McDowell to the stage to perform her  award winning version of " John Condon"  Niamh gave a flawless and moving performance of the song which kept the audience enthralled and in awe until the final note when there was an immediate  and sustained ovation. Niamh then kept her guitar strapped on as Tony invited Aoife and Dana Leckey ( concertina and mandolin), Peter Doran( violin)  Cara Sloan ( tin whistle) and Tara Grant ( beat box) to join with Niamh in performing Turlough  O'Carolan's Morgan Magen and " The Trip to Sligo"    After these  well received tunes, the instrumentalists (apart from Tara) gave way for Ciara Rooney, Aoife Grant and Clodagh Morgan to join them on stage to perform " Home to Donegal" and " The Baknks of the Roses" which were the two ballads thay used in competition.  The Instrumental group then rejoined the balladeers to deliver a foot tapping rendition of the crow d pleasing " Star pf the County Down"  As this year's Glasdrumman Scór na Óg contingent retoook their seats, our first two special guests took to th efloor. Dancing a reel and a slip jig  7 and 9 year old Kerry and Orla Murdock from the McCartney School of dancing Bryansford  entertained the audience with their skilful footwork and will be welcome in our Clubrooms anytime.

Over the past year a great bond of friendship, camaraderie and craic has developed between our club 's and Mayobridge's Scór na nÓg squads. This started in Glasdrumman  on the opening night of Scór 2017 and has continued and got stronger right through the County, Ulster and All Ireland campaigns.  It was a very pleasing sight ot see the contingent of singers,  musicians, parents , siblings and their mentor Edel Moley  arrive to take part in the evening's proceedings. It was only right that next on stage were Gavin, Eimear , Jordan ,Katie and Bernadette our County, Ulster Champions and all Ireland Ballad Group. They delivered a very harmonious, lyrical and moving performance of Christie Moore's " The Voyage " and followed with a lively and rousing version of the Percy French Classic " Eileen Óg to the delight of all present. Go raibh mait Agaibh Droichead Mhaigh Eo.

Bonds have also been forged over the years with some of our fellow Senior Scór competitors . One in particular bewteen  our own Donna Feeney  and Eileen ( also óg) McCusker from Clonduff. Eileen came along to support Niamh in the Waterfont and has many friends in the Lower Mourne area. She delivered a masterclass  in how to  keep an audience in the palm of your hand with her clever and inventive use of stagecraft, monologue, mannerisms and expressions as  she had us all in stitches with her delivery of  the recitation " An Irish mammy " .  The floor was then thrown open to all those very talented dancers from our own and visiting clubs to take art in a " Step Over "  dance called by our very own Joanne Grant. Accompanying the dancers were visiting musicians Peter Magee from Mayobridge on violin, Owen. Mary Catherine and Gavin from Clonduff on Banjo, Flute and Bodhrán.  After some very nifty steps performed by  the very talented youngsters itb was left tpour own Donna Feeney tpo bring the dance to an end by showing all those years pent leatrning the stepos haven't been wasted.  Other guests with whom we've bonded over the years also present  Kathleen Musse n who has been a constant presence at both Scór na óg is Sinseair over the years along with South Down Scór committee members Gerard Keenanfrom Mayobridge and Saval man Sean Gennity. Indeed it was Sean who turned out o br the surprise package of the evening by entertaining everyone with his own  unique take on " Me Brother Sylvest" and " The Old Maid in the Garret".

Next a performance from tte evening's supergroup  either Mayo Drumman or Glas Bridge depending on who you were taiking to. Both ballad groups and some of the musicians joined together to perform two or  three songs the pick of which was  very tuneful " Fields of Athenry"  There was then a break in proceedings as all attending stood to bid Oiche Mhaith is Slán Ábhaile to Jim Cunningham.

Eimear Magee was next on stage where she sang a very moving version of the " Heart of Mourne " which she dedicated to Niamh. Another example  , if any were needed, of the grat camararderie between these groups oif talented young people.

In bringing the evening to a close Fear an Ti Tony thanked: Damian Grant, Catherine and Paul Kelly, Terry Joyce ,Ann MArie Smith ,Jen McKay Ann Marie Smith adn all who had provided food and prizes forthe raffle on the night, our honoured guests for their attendance and kind words of encouragement, Donna Feeney and Joanne Grant whose unstinting support throughout these past few years in mentoring  our talented young people has been a joy,  Gary McGreevy and our hard working club Commitee especially our Secretary Aileen and  Treasurer Colette for their cooperation, all who came to support us right from the start to the waterfront from within our own Club and our neighbours Longstone and Ballymartin, those who sent messages of support from acrossthe County and Province, our long suffering parents, grandparents and guardians especially Cathy and John McDowell for all their coperation and support  during  our entire Scór journey this year, to Mayobridge , Clonduff and Bryansford for providing the talented performers for the night and lastly to Aoife and Dana Leckey, Peter Doran, Cara Sloan , Ciara Rooney ,Clodagh Morgan, Aoife and Tar Grant and to ur vey own Star of the County Down Niamh McDowell GO RAIBH MAITHAGAIBH GÓ LÉIR.
