Aughlisnafin club notes

January 23, 2017

We are pleased to announce that Aughlisnafin GAC and St John's GAC have amalgamated at minor grade for the coming season with the intention of competing in the East Down Minor 'A' football league and championship and the East Down Minor Feis 7's.

The players from both clubs expressed a desire to play in the 13 aside A section which would not have been numerically possible without this amalgamation. The team name is 'Baile an Locha' as gaeilge for 'Town of the Lough' and chosen as Ballylough is the name of the road which is travelled to and from the respective club pitches at Annsborough and Drumnaquoile. The home games will be hosted by the St Johns club. The management team has been confirmed as Willie Megoran (St Johns) & Gerard Lenaghan (Aughlisnafin). Mickey Flynn (St Johns) & Paddy Flanagan (Aughlisnafin) are the selectors.

The management team have already held their initial team meeting and the players were formally introduced to each other, although most of the players already knew each other having played in same primary and high school teams and when with the county development squads. The attendance was very encouraging and augers well for the weeks and months ahead. The management team outlined their aims and objectives for the season ahead with collective training commencing this Wednesday night in the Fin Hall at 7 pm followed by a pitch session this Sunday at 11 am at St John's. Good luck to everyone involved.
