Liam Doyle is making a late push for inclusion in the Down starting XV that will face Fermanagh in Sunday week's Ulster SFC quarter-final.

The 1999 All-Ireland minor winning captain, whose career has been plagued by injury, came through last Sunday's challenge match against Armagh in Lurgan without any problems and is understood to be contention for a start in his customary centre back berth.

"Liam played for 40 minutes and he came through okay. He's fit to play and is available for selection," Down boss James McCartan explained to The Irish News.

Danny Hughes also came through last Sunday's challenge unscathed after his recent hamstring problems, but Benny Coulter (broken ankle) and Dan Gordon (broken bone in his foot) are resigned to missing the trip to Brewster Park.
