The Late Des Quinn
Mr Des Quinn of Tullybrannigan Road, Newcastle, passed away at his home on 26 July after a short illness. He was 61.
He is survived by his wife Josephine, daughters Jacqueline and Jennifer, son John, sons-in-law Conaill and Stephen and grandchildren Fergus, Clare and Kerry; also brothers John, Brian and Frank, and sisters Phyllis and Maura.
Originally from Loughinisland, Des was a keen sportsman. He played football for Loughinisland GAC, and was a former secretary of the club.
He was educated at St Patrick's Grammer School in Downpatrick and was a graduate of Queen's University in Belfast. Des worked in the Valuation Office for a number of years and then as a valuer and estate agent in Newcastle, Lisburn and Belfast.
A dedicated family man, Des lived in Newcastle for almost 40 years, and was a member of the Mourne Golf Club. A proficient golfer- he won the Captain's Prize on two occasions- Des took an active role in the administration of the club, and held the position of treasurer for a number of years.
He was captain in 2008/08 and was a member of the club's council when he died.
He was held in high esteem by his fellow club members and at his funeral past captains of the club formed a guard of honour as the cortege made its way into the church.
