Caolan Mooney, who was controversially sent off against Armagh, will miss Down's All-Ireland SFC Qualifier clash with Tipperary.

The Mourne County midfielder was shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Aidan Nugent approaching half time during his side's thrilling Ulster SFC defeat to the their neighbours on May 19th.

Down manager Paddy Tally felt the call was harsh and, when Mooney was cited by the Central Competitions Control Committee for “behaving in a way which is dangerous to an opponent”, the player requested a hearing before the Central Hearings Committee.

However, at yesterday's hearing, the alleged infraction was found proven and Down's vice-captain is now set to miss the meeting against the Premier County in Newry on Saturday week.
