Young People can no longer be left off at the club at night when there is no activity arranged for them. The youth work staff and volunteers can only cater with the organised activities. If there is an activity any young person wants to happen, all they need do is tell a youth support worker & we will do our best to make it happen. Also at the end of activities, parents must collect the young people inside the club; it is too dark and there is too much traffic in the car park for young people to be running about outside late at night waiting on lifts which are late.

The next stage of the award-winning Kingdom Camogie Academy gets underway on Monday 1st October, an eight-week autumn programme in furtherance of its core aim of ‘practice all year round focusing on the development of technical skills & later incorporating lifestyle, diet & nutritional advice for young players in line with the Camogie Long-Term Player Pathway.’ Details are Mondays 1st, 8th, 15th & 22nd October; 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th November at 6.30pm P3&P4; at 7.30pm P5&P6; at 8.30pm u14 (born 05/06) and Wednesdays 3rd,10th, 17th & 24th October; 7th,14th,21st,28th November 6.30pm P1&P2; 7.30pm u12 (born 07/08). Six delegates from the Kingdom Men’s Shed travelled by train to Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork last week to join 500 ‘shedders’ from all over Ireland at the world’s biggest gathering of Men’s Sheds. There they were joined by delegates from as far away as Australia, USA, Iceland, Denmark, Scotland, Wales and England. Also, there were our neighbours, Rostrevor Men’s Shed, who had in their company one ‘Big O’. Turned out Oliver was part of the entertainment, which also included choirs from Men’s Sheds in Dundalk, Cork and Kilcock, that Wednesday night at the gala dinner in the Rochestown Hotel. Altogether there were 500 people in Cork’s new 48,000 capacity stadium on the banks of the River Lee. Tom Cunningham, John Magee, Gerard McConville, Felix Higgins, Daniel Small and Peter McAlinden  were there to hear and meet some famous Irish sportsmen like David Gillick, a former Olympic athlete, as well as former Ireland and Munster rugby favourite, Donnacha O’Callaghan.

Originating in Australia in 1980s as a means of getting men to take an interest in their own health and wellbeing, the Men’s Sheds movement is now a global phenomenon. The Irish Men’s Shed Association, who put the Gathering together was founded in 2011 and now boasts 10,000 members with 420 sheds across the island of Ireland. Ireland was the first country in the northern hemisphere to set up Men’s Sheds.

On Thursday morning before catching the train back to home the Kingdom Shedders joined 35 other delegates on a trip to Clonakilty in West Cork.
