Roarty, Joe

August 17, 2006
The late Joe Roarty Bundoran and much further afield was deeply saddened with the news that Joe Roarty, Church Road, Bundoran has died. Joe, a gentleman to the core, was a much loved and highly respected Principal of Bundoran Boys School, St. Macartan's prior to and following its amalgamation with St. Louis Primary School in the town, in 1979. A native of Dunlewey, he was a superb educator. He continued in the post as Principal of the new St. Macartan's until his retirement in 1984 and his devoted daughter, Marie Stuttard, continues the family link with education in Bundoran. Secretary of Bundoran Golf Club for many years, he was deeply involved in the GAA in the town and has the distinction of having hurled for the county. A caring man who always put his community first, he was involved in all that was good in the parish and made a huge contribution to the life and vibrancy of the parish of Magh Ene. John Campbell, Principal of St Macartan's NS described him as "a real gentleman and a complete professional". He added: "We will all miss him deeply." He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter Maire, son Gerard, son-in-law John, daughter-in-law Mary, grandchildren and a wide circle of family and friends, to whom sympathy is extended. The removal of remains took place to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Bundoran. Courtesy of the Donegal Democrat 17/08/2006
