The late John McGinley The death has occurred in Ballyshannon, of John McGinley, former Customs Officer, Pettigo and corner forward on the Pettigo Donegal Junior Championship winning team of 1953. He scored a goal from corner forward in the final. He had previously played with Kilcar and Greencastle and with his college team, St. Enda's, Galway but had quit football when eventually persuaded to turn our for Pettigo in 1953. "Sure you couldn't tell Tony McGrath you had finished playing". One remembers it as a dry but middling sort of day. Came home eventually, after some table dancing in the National Hotel, Donegal Town, after the match in the company of Hugie Curran and announced to his wife Margaret, "Hey Bessie, we brought home the bacon" He is survived by his three sons, Sean, the well known actor of Braveheart and The Field, Ciaran and Frankie. His late wife Margaret was a well known musician and taught for six years in Lettercran National School. John was also secretary of Pettigo GAA Club. Courtesy of the Donegal Democrat 13 April 2006
