Doherty, Liam

August 31, 2003
The Late Liam Doherty Liam was laid to rest in Drumboe Cemetery on Thursday, July 10th, 2003. He was a quiet and dignified man and testament to his popularity were the large numbers of Gaels who came from far and near to pay their respects at his wake and funeral. Liam travelled as a young man to London in September 1958 in search of work. This decision was to create for him a place in the history of the GAA in London and in particular, a very special place in the history of the Tir Conaill Gaels GAA Club. Liam was elected the first chairman of the Gaels when they formed in 1962. The club was to be a haven for young Donegal men and women travelling to London at the time. This legacy continues today. A seed was sown, the acorn has now grown into a great oak. In those early years, Liam contributed enormously to the well-being and support of all the these men and women through his chairmanship, generosity and involvement in the club. We thank you Liam for the memories. Ar Dheis De go raibh a Anam. Founder members, Tir Conaill Gaels GAA Club 31 August 2003
