Former Donegal star Declan Bonner made his return to the play fielding yesterday in order to help his club in their hour of need.

Scorer of Donegal's final point in their inaugural All-Ireland SFC triumph back in 1992, the now 50-year-old came out of retirement to tog out for his native Na Rossa in the county Junior A Championship.

According to Donegal Sports Hub, Na Rossa were short-handed and would have had to concede the game had Bonner not stood in goals, where he kept a clean sheet in his team's one-point defeat.

"I haven't played in three years now, but I enjoyed it", Bonner admitted afterwards.

"We should have won the game. We missed a rake of chances. We'd thought on Friday about actually forfeiting the game, but we scraped together a team and got men resurrected!"
